I have been reading about Rife machines and wonder if it would be ok to use on a 13 year old. What I have read sounds good as far as using an electromagnetic frequency to disable the spirochete. However, I am wondering what that electromagnetic field does to the cells in your body and if it could cause harm in a growing child. Any thoughts are welcomed.

No one knows 100% what it does to healthy cells but it is my understanding that it is like sitting next to a high intensity amplifier.
I was concerned too about the long term side effects but wanted to try it because I was tired of antibiotics. I have a basic model and all I can say is that I definitely feel worse several days after I use it. It takes a long time before you feel better.
Many other people here have been using it and have more experience than I do. Perhaps they can help.

I feel worse after using mine. Don't do it. Studies are indicating that exposure to EMF/RF is lethal. I attribute my Lyme to the wireless boom. In fact, the man who sold me my Rife told me that his wife has cancer.

I do not believe Rife has been proven to be safe.
If I knew of someone using Rife on a child I would seriously consider calling Child Protective Services.

I am a long time rifer, with only positive results. However, I did not encourage our son to rife until he stopped growing, like in his 20's. I was concerned there might be some negative effects during during cell division & mitosis.
Of course, long term antibiotics can't be good either. So you'll have to pick your poison.

There are actually many pediatric conditions in which longterm abx are used, including pediatric psoriasis. I chose to put my daughter on long term antibiotics and she has been in complete remission for 7+ years. Among the many pediatric conditions in which longterm abx are used are children with cystic fibrosis, for example, who are usually on abx full time for their entire childhood. Or teens with acne. Anyway, the safety of longterm abx has been studied with many patient groups of children- and has been found to be safe and effective.
My daughter is in full remission thanks to abx. As she had cardiac manifestations of Lyme & Babesiosis, we certainly considered a possible yeast infection nothing next to getting her well. And she is. She horseback rides, is in plays, does voice & piano, has many many friends and is top of her school for reading. She has been in full remission for 7+ years. And, she never did get EVEN a yeast infection- she had no side effects from abx at all, except restoration of her health.

We used 4 rife machine treatments on our 10-year-old who has had lyme for 5 years. We did the treatments once a week, for one month.
I can tell you that he most definately became worse while doing these. Were these herxes, or just a general decline? I do not know. He never had a herx on an antibiotic, so I'm just becoming familiar with these.
We now have him on Buhner protocol, and will be adding antibiotics to the mix eventually. He is now better than he's been in quite a while.
It was our guess that the rife was overwhelming his system, and we were doing it too often. We are not ruling it out as a mode of treatment in the future.
We know rife is experiemental. When people have asked us about it's safety, we tell them what we know and we don't spin the facts to make it sound better.
The truth is that after five years of antibiotics, and continous relapses we are at a place where we are willing to consider additional options.
I hope rife will help our son, not harm him. But I know Lyme will hurt him, and quite possibly shorten his life. So what should I do?These are difficult thoughts to consider, and despite strong opinions, no one knows the answer for sure.
I hope you find a plan that works for your 13-year-old. Sounds like you're on the right track, because you're asking questions and researching.

I don't think it is wise to use rife on young children as it is experimental but I know that some people would think it's a good idea to call child protective services on you for using long-term antibiotics on young children as well, as it is also deemed experimental by the medical community. Unfortunately Child protective services have done more harm than good to many families.
Some doctors have even used the threat of calling child protective services if parents disagree with the doctor's proposed treatment.
It brings to mind an article by Pamela Weintraub showing the harm turning children over to child services can do. Here's an excerpt:
