It's produced by Martin Scorsese. I respect his work.

It's a drama--comedy.

Any way we could get in touch with some of the people

involved in the production of it and offer to furnish some

information?

Hi Adamm,

At this point, it may be too late. Filming starts next week--March 10th and takes a few weeks.

Well ... maybe I'll send a message to Martin Scorsese, asking if he's seen PJ Langhoff's 2 new books of Lyme patient stories.

Here's another article:

If it gives a somewhat realistic portrayal of what living with Lyme is like, this would be really awesome.

It could really get people talking. [Big Grin]

I am just hoping that they get info from the perspective of the person with Lyme, not from all the people who just have known people with Lyme disease.

In knowing that it is a dramedy, it makes me wonder what aspects of the disease will be portrayed as comical.

If people laugh, at first, my bet is they will then get a view of the real thing. A comedy/drama will attract a lot more viewers than just a docu-drama about this.

It will be just one writer's story, one approach. It may not change the world, but I do hope it helps shine an honest light.

Robert Redford has a hand in this; Martin Scorsese is co-producer. They've been working on this since before 2001. I trust their work. They don't put people down and they don't do junk. Their work has always been illuminating.

Alec Baldwin steps into 'Lymelife'
Emma Roberts joins cast of indie dramedy
By TATIANA SIEGEL

Alec Baldwin and Emma Roberts have boarded Derick and Steven Martini's indie dramedy "Lymelife."

Cynthia Nixon, Rory Culkin, Kieran Culkin, Jill Hennessy and Timothy Hutton are also joining the cast.

Martin Scorsese and Leonard Loventhal exec produce the project, which starts shooting next week in New Jersey.

Set in late '70s Long Island, the coming-of-age story follows two families who fall apart when precarious relationships, real estate problems and Lyme disease converge in the heart of suburbia.

The Martini brothers also penned the screenplay.
Baldwin is producing alongside Jon Cornick, Barbara De Fina, Angela Somerville and Michele Tayler.

"It's a very personal story, and it's something I've been trying to get made for five years," said Derick Martini, who developed "Lymelife" under Robert Redford at the 2001 Sundance Filmmakers Lab. "I've done a lot in the meantime, but (the story) has always nagged at me. It's a terrific feeling to finally see it through to its fruition."

Howdy Keebler.

Ya, you have to get 'em laughing to draw a crowd.

Martin Scorsese has a history of being honest and of "going places" with honesty in his movies.

You wrote:
"I trust their work. They don't put people down and they don't do junk. Their work has always been illuminating."

I agree. Thank God.

It comes out in 2009, everybody!

kudos for posting this info!!

here's what i just left on the 1st site on 1st post.....

To Martin Scorsese and Alec Baldwin,

I hope you will use FACTUAL info about CHRONIC LYME disease patients in this lyme story of Alex getting lyme disease.

I do hope this movie will show this as CHRONIC lyme, and not a tick bite embedded or a bulls-eye rash where the patient is lucky enough to get to a LYME LITERATE MD PROMPTLY and cured!

I've had chroinc lyme disease for 38 years; 34 years MISDIAGNOSED by 40-50 drs. I have many other complications since I believed every drs. OTHER diagnosis they gave me for 34 years.

In my case, it was a tick off my folk's LIVE CHRISTMAS tree that bite me 1969! I was able to track this back using my journal diaries! It was sub-zero Iowa weather so I wasn't outside gardening; I had no pets and neither did my roommates. All normal ways of getting bitten were NOT present.

I hope most of all that Martin's movie will get into the LYME CONTROVERSAY!!

Our good LLMD, lyme literate MDs from ILADS, International Lyme Associated Disease Society vs. the bad drs., IDSA, Infection Disease Society of America, who do NOT believe in CHRONIC LYME.

The IDSA drs. treat for UNDER 30 DAYS! They proclaim the patient, CURED OF LYME! NO WAY JOSE! HOG WASH !! The IDSA drs. are responsible for us being in such bad shape as we are, and of the MANY LYME DEATHS due to other complications of chronic lyme.

Martin, I do hope you will get Wisc. author, PJ LANGHOFF'S, recent 2-08 lyme series books, "IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD". Book 2 has 80 lyme patients internationally in it; I'm in this one.

Book 1 has the basics of lyme disease, and 8 other lyme patient stories including of 2 patient's lyme deaths, and part of PJ's continuing lyme story with the 12 year COURT system in trying to get her 2 children back from her ex-husband.

Book 3 will cover other things including controversial lyme subjects!

Martin, I have respected your work for decades, and I hope you will get our CHRONIC LYME DISEASE story across where our family, friends, co-workers turn their backs on us since we do NOT have a VISIBLE illness; it's all INVISIBLE!

Martin, I enjoyed them recently honoring you for your work!! Kudos Martin to a very deserving man.

I also hope you touch on this: the high costs of finding a LLMD/lyme literate MD to treat us who will NOT TAKE INSURANCE; the health insurance companies refusing to pay ANY LYME RELATED EXENSES; the loss of jobs, a spouse, your children, your home, bankruptcy, and being homeless!

How our veterans do NOT receive help from our US govt. on paying any of their lyme expenses when they were BITTEN WHILE IN SERVICE!

Looking forward to a 1st class chronic lyme movie! Thank you all!

Alec Baldwin Gets Lyme Disease
By Ed Perkis: 2008-03-04 18:56:41

If you're like me, you probably think there haven't been enough independent comedies about Lyme disease. I can only think of 10 or 15 off the top of my head. Alec Baldwin agrees with us and is going to produce and star in the movie, Lymelife, about what happens when deer ticks go bad.

Actually, according to Variety, Lymelife is about more than Lyme disease. It is described as a ``dramedy'' set in Long Island suburbia in the 1970's. The Lyme disease combines with relationship and real estate problems to come between two families. Baldwin will be joined in the cast by Emma Roberts (recently of Nancy Drew), Cynthia Nixon, Rory Culkin, Kieran Culkin, Jill Hennessy and Timothy Hutton. I liked this movie better when it was called The Ice Storm. Hopefully we will not be subjected to another key party.

The co-writers and directors of Lymelife are Derick and Steven Martini. I have never heard of them, but they wrote and starred in an indie film called Smiling Fish and Goat on Fire about eight or nine years ago. They also have a few other scripts in development. This will be their first directing experience. Hopefully they are ready, since filming will begin in New Jersey next week.

I just posted the following as a comment after the article. A note said it must be verified by a monitor (before it's posted.)

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Over the years, Martin Scorsese has "gone places" with his honesty in movies.

So very many citizens in the US suffer from chronic Lyme disease, a very painful and disabling disease that wrecks lives, divides families and very often causes financial disaster. The overwhelming majority of doctors ignore us--by belittling us.

Chronic Lyme disease is defined as a brain infection of the Lyme pathogen: neuroborreliosis, a neurological disease.

About half who get Lyme disease are children. Often they can't go to school and can't participate in life with their friends. It can hurt to think. 90% of kids with Lyme have bad head pain. But will these kids (and adults) get the antibiotic treatment they need to help them?

The infectious disease doctors in the US (IDSA) lie by saying chronic Lyme disease does not exist. They do the bidding of many for-profit health insurance companies that don't pay for treatment.

It is profits over patients.

Who else profits? The painkiller, statin and antidepressant superindustries. Follow the money.

The overwhelming majority of people with wrecked lives caused by Lyme don't know that Lyme is the name for their illness. It's the magic keyword on the Internet to connect with others.

We've been ignored for decades.

Except by ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) physicians--our hero doctors!

However, some of our hero doctors have had to fight legal battles for all of the above reasons.

And I wonder, where has America gone?

I refer readers of my comments to PJ Langhoff's 2 new books of a 3 book series, "It's All In Your Head." These contain Lyme patient stories. My story is in there.

As are stories from around the world. Ticks with Lyme can't read road signs!

I look forward and am grateful for Martin Scorsese and Alec Baldwin's efforts in the upcoming movie, Lymelife.

Diane J. Marie

Fin 24:

Lyme doesn't appear to be sidelined in the film--it's in the title of the film: Lymelife.

In my opinion, the time period is good. Decades later, here we still are with the Lyme mess. I hope we can point to the movie, then point to the here and now.

I'm glad it's being made by a producer with a wonderful track record for integrity--Martin Scorsese.

Even if lyme is just a minor part of the script, I think we have to be careful here (edited to add: with expectations).

Sure, we hope there are zero inaccuracies and we would hope that the world could finally see what we've been living and work toward prevention and a cure - but this is their movie. The script is finished and memorized at this point.

It would be really special, though, if the film folks would let key lyme advocates SCREEN it early so as to be prepared for whatever feedback may come from the film when it opens.

Still, even if lyme happens to be just a slight connection in the screeplay, it may serve to enhance conversation that follows.

And, remember, the documentary is coming out soon - and the concert at Carnegie Hall.

I find it interesting that Alec Baldwin took the main role in the movie since he grew up on Long Island and his entire extended family still resides there. I'm sure he has heard a lot about Lyme just living there and Dr. B has done a lot to create awareness out there. I wonder if Alec or anyone from his family has the disease or has dealt with it in the past that's why he has got involved.

Two of the Baldwin brothers struggle with addiction (Daniel and Stephen)...doesn't necessarily mean Lyme but then again...

I hear cilantro and parsley are good for health. Maybe the salt section and the Vit C section thrown in for good measure. And a get-well card to sit on the kitchen counter? That's five items. Any others?

Ads that appear on a link usually have no connection to the authors of that site - unless it is something the author or site sponsors are selling themselves.

The computer just looks for words and then embeds the next ad with key words as an advertisement.

It's sad, though, that this occurs as a very credible link may have junk cures on the same page, thereby attributing a certain level of credibility to the advertisement.

On the other hand, perhaps an ad with good information may appear, too.

In my opinion, this can only be good.

I can't see how it can hurt, and the effects of getting the words "lyme disease" out there in a major motion picture can only increase awareness, even if it isn't the big theme or topic of the movie. It is definitely part of it, at the very least!

The tide is turning. These are the big guys.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! [Smile]

Just saw a picture in this past weekend edition of a prominent North NJ newspaper, The Record.

It's a picture of Jill Hennessy standing in front of a house. It's titled "Bergen town bitten by film bug" and it's captioned:
"Actress Jill Hennessy is part of the cast filmimg on Orchard Lane in Franklin Lakes for Lymelife, a tale of suburban families dealing with relationships, real estate problems and Lyme disease."

There was no accompanying article.

Looks like they're still actively filming ...

I'm not expecting too much from this.

Hundreds of films & TV shows are made in NJ every week... Thousands of films are released each year.

NY is a big center for the film industry & many films are made in NJ since it's close, it's cheap to film here, & the state gov't gives tax breaks to the film companies.

Many of them go unnoticed or end up on cable in a few months.

How many of you have heard of the Glen Ridge, NJ rape trial? I live in the next town over. Ally Sheedy was in a film about it a while back.

So, does that mean anything? Who knows? Some young girl was just raped in my town last week by a bunch of school kids.

Things don't really change much...

What about Blood Diamond with Leo DiCaprio? Does that mean there are no more unethical diamond sales in the world?

They have been filming The Sopranos around the area where I live for years... big deal.

It's good for the film company & the actors who get to make a living.

It doesn't do much to change public health, insurance, or the medical industry.

Movie making is an art & a business... they don't really care about changing the public health system or creating Lyme awareness.

They aren't an advocacy group - they're just a bunch of filmmakers & celebrities with a story that may make some money.

I think many of you are blowing the Lyme aspect of the film out of proportion since it effects us. It's probably just a small part of the film in any case.

There are so many films being made these days, we hardly notice even when big films are released unless they spend millions on PR.

I don't think this film is going to raise the level of awareness & it's probably not even a major plot point of the film... just a catchy title.

This film has flop written all over it. Lyme Disease and real estate problems. Yeah, those two sound perfect together. Let's make a film next about bone marrow cancer and auto repossession. My instinct is that this is going to be some crap romantic comedy where one of the main characters discovers the stereotypical swollen knee for added tearjerk potential. The IDSA then comes to the rescue and treats the character for 7.5 hours with antibiotics and everything's fine. "A 1970s coming-age-story." Good grief.

I don't know how involved Scorsese is with this project, but he hasn't done anything worthwhile since approximately 1982 and probably needs the cash. If the film does become popular, all it means is that for the next 20 years every time I mention I have had Lyme disease I'll get "Oh...I saw that movie with Alec Baldwin and...." Ugh.

Michael Bay should really direct a movie about Lyme Disease. Someone will get Lyme Disease, and then the national guard will be called in to quarantine the area, because the illness gives its victims superhuman powers, and then they'll have to nuke all of New England. Alan Steere and Mark Klempner will celebrate and collect $500 million from Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Aetna, and Humana. However, GlaxoSmithKlineBeechamAstraZenicaBristolMeyersSquib
PfizerRoche will call in their extra-terrestrial hitsquad in revenge for stripping them of a source of income. There will be lots of explosions, and it will be awesome. AWESOME.

Thanks for the laugh, Bitrex!

Maybe you should direct the movie!

Posted by Robin123 (Member # 9197) on :

I like your script, Bitrex - go ahead - make a film for us! And btw, people do lose their real estate to pay for everything, so that part's not off. Now, next, make a Lyme connection btn the human rights torch, oranges, people who sing offkey, and monkeys who escape from the zoo...
