If you have an ongoing lyme infection, should your sed rate be elevated?

"should" is an interesting word choice
sed rate is a very non specific thing--it can raise for any inflammation in body ...and sometimes not at all with a lot of inflammation
it may or it may not rise with infections and it may stay high even long after infection clears.
Mine rises when I can have little sx and sometimes with severe sx it will be normal
another test used is CRP -- and some like it better for inflammation indicator
In RA ( Rheum Arhtiritis) SED rates seem better to monitor the progress of treatment BUT not all with RA have it from Lyme (controversy aside)
also know that there is CRP, hsCRP (high sensitivity) and cCRP ( cardiac)
ask the lab/Dr which may be better for you and so like all else Lymie--MAYBE yes MAYBE no

I like Fin24's answer. There seems to be very little absolutes with Lyme.
I can tell you that my sed rate is elevated. When I couldn't walk or feed myself it was 85. (for a female it should be 20 or under).
After 2.5 years of oral abx., it went down to 54. After 7 months of IV therapy it went down to 31 and I felt great. Now a year later, I'm back up to 54 (and having symptoms)
