Hi all,

So my ears have been bothering me a lot lately. I am on mepron/zith for babesia. I want to also treat bart, along with this. Was going to ask my llmd for mepron/zith/bactrim.

However, now I am thinking I shouldn't take zith because of the ear problems. I don't want to take biaxin, because I already took it for 9 months before zith.

I am not even sure if biaxin may have started the ear problems, looking back.

So, what are my options to treat lyme/bart/babs. I would like to stay on mepron if I can too.

Would clindamycin/mepron/bactrim- target all three? Is clindamycin effective against bart/lyme? I know zith is, so was wondering about clindamycin.

Does clindamycin cause ear problems like the zith/biaxin can?

I asked my llmd about switching meds last week and I was told we would discuss it this week at my appointment (on Thursday). The ear thing seems worse though, so I don't want to take any chances.

Thanks!

I have this info from a conference I attended last spring. This is from Dr. H.'s slides.

Consider using plaquenil + mepron + macrolide + septra if concurrent babesia/bartonella.

If malarone is used for babs you do not have to use a macrolide.

Also, Dr. H switches over the Malarone once the night sweats diminish, so if your night sweats are getting better, you could switch over to Malarone so you don't have to take Zith or Biaxin.

I was on this combo, and it was effective for me -- minocycline, Plaquenil, Malarone, Lariam, Artemisia, Tindamax and Levaquin.

six,

Were you on that combo together at the same time, and what doses and for how long did you take all of them?

Thanks for the info.

Valymemom,

What about doses? Any pulsing? For how long? What if you still have some Lyme?

Could you add artemisian / arteminisin?

Could you pulse flagyl? Or is that overdoing it?

I'm going to research plaquenil.

Maureen,

Just to let you know, clindamycin is real good at making c. diff. proliferate in the colon. c. diff is commonly in the air and on countertops, etc.

A super c. diff can be picked up in hospitals.

Thank you for all the responses.

I still have nightsweats- had them last night as a matter of fact. So I would like to still stay on mepron.

Yes, I have heard that about clindamycin- don't need more problems than I already have!

My ears are not as clogged today, so maybe the ear problem isn't the drugs- but more of an allergy.

My LLMD's office said tinnitis is common with lyme disease, so it is hard to know if it is from the zith or not.

Maybe I should switch back to biaxin? Will it work since I was already on it for 8 months right before the zith/mepron, which has only been a 2 1/2 month break. What do you think? Would the lyme be resistant to it now?

My LLMD isn't big on lots of abx at once- I was on biaxin/plaquenil for 8 months, and now mepron/zith, so I doubt she will add another abx. to biaxin to work on the lyme, even if it wasn't all that effective for me.

I am going to ask her about adding bactrim to target bart if I do stay on the zith/mepron.

thanks!

Sixgoofy probably has a better idea on dosage since this is from her llmd.

I am looking over the slides in my book from the conference and he states: "pulsed therapies may be used for antibiotic intolerance, yeast problems, or once significant clinical improvement..."

Every llmd is different; every one of us struggling to get well has a mix of infections and other system breakdowns & detox problems.

I only wish my family had a simplistic disease.
