Hello after about a month on Doxycycline i turned the volume up on my computer too loud and then my
ears started hurting. I did not put it together that the doxy might cause an ototoxic reaction because i
had no other problems with it prior to my hearing being a bit sensitive which i attributed to the
TBI's. After hearing the loud noise i took my medication for the next two days and then stopped
because i noticed the cause and effect was really making my ears hurt bad with lots of pressure and
pain. My LLMD said it was really rare but could be a rxn from the medicine but it could also be a
herx from hitting the Bart as well.It has been 6 days since i have been off of the antibiotics and i am still getting this
pressure/pain/hypersensitivity however i have no problems with hearing loss and no tinnitus so i am a bit confused. I have an appointment next friday
and am off of antibiotics at the moment thought i would run this by you guys? Also i never had any
of the pressure pain prior to starting doxy however in my right ear i did get this wooshing
sound and it felt like i could hear my heartbeat in my ear when i layed down at night, kinda strange symptom really.

Doxy can cause intracranial hypertension. Please google the side effects of this drug.

I'm without abx since 6 months, have Lyme and Bart and since two months I have exactly these symptoms.
In my case it cannot be an ototoxic reaction - as I don't take anything. For me it's the disease which is progressing and I strongly suspect Bart.
Therefore, I would opt for Herx in your case.
Take care,
Gabrielle

I have tinnitus, which is how I got on the trail to discovering I was infected with Lyme, Bart and Babs.
However, I got a major hearing loss in one ear while taking Doxy, 400 mg per day. After about 12 days, I thought, THIS IS NOT A HERX, and stopped. That was in December.
My hearing has not revived.
Ugh.
Best,
Cass A
