having bilateral knee replacement in 1 week.
been in remission 1 year.
should i recommend to id doc to place me on iv rochephin prophylaxis for the surgery??????

has anyone done this to prevent flair up.
i know it works for dental treatment,as i have been advocating it for several years.

hi-i am 2 weeks post bilateral knee surgery today. still in rehab. going home friday. today i walked with two canes for 20 minutrs-including 2 full staircases (up and down) and grass-uneven surface-and down hill and stepped off curb.

(i've been icing ever since!)

but needless to say i am really happy i did it. doc says i will jog and ski again. i have needed this done for 10 years. he also says...i will need to work at improving them for 6 months.

to get ready for surgery i spent a month:

off ibuprofen

did as much walking-leg exercise as i could

had teeth cleaned

i was on flagl a few months before the surgery-but had bad reaction and stopped it 3 weeks before surgery\

i was on amox and biaxin trying to get rid of sinus infection

last day they gave me two pills for bladder infection

i got no infection

my wounds are beautiful-not even pink-just got staples out

i ate as healthy as possible before surgery and this hosp/rehab let me bring almost all my supps

good luck! be ready to work hard!. listen to the PT's and don't let the nurses and aides kill ya.

really-there is some pain at first. (not the first 3 days -but days 4,5,7.)-of course everyone is different. i have other problems-arthritis in back and hands.

but my therapists said there is pain whether you move the knees or not. if you move them-then they function much better. if you don't move them they still hurt and don't work. take care.

Good luck, Dave!! I don't have an answer for you. I would be more concerned about your gallbladder than about getting a flare up!

Kayak...Glad you're doing so well! Hang in there!! [Smile]
