My 7 year old son is taking suprax and amox since october.

Last night complained of sharp pain on right hip and it was swollen and hard.

saw substitute pediatrician today who says it could be appendicitus but doesnt know if the meds he is on could cause the inflammation.

an of course our llmd is on vacation till next week.

Ped says to go for catscan. which I agree with but my husband doesn't want to do if it could be explained by something else...

thoughts anyone

Is there a danger to having a scan for stray cats?? I didnt know of one!!

When a child is in pain,,,SOME caution goes out the window,,,fix him doc,,,QUICK!!!

Sure dont WANT a burst appendix,,,IF in fact they can tell its bad from that scan!! always--just don--

I don't know. A CT scan WOULD seem to be the best idea.

How large is the area that is inflamed? It could be a herx reaction, but if the dr thinks it could be appendicitis then that is worrisome for sure.

Any actual abdominal pain?

ABX are known to reduce inflammation, not cause it, but a herx could cause it.

Sorry....just rambling and thinking out loud!

dmbfan,

I don't know if this helps, but my son had severe abdominal pains when he first started on suprax.

It did pass, but the first day of the pains, he was doubled over/couldn't walk in the upright position. We called the llmd, she was concerned about apendicitis too, but suggested that we try some maalox or tums first, to see if it was gas.

The pains cleared up right after the maalox, but came back the next day.

I was very concerned that it was a reaction to the suprax, as he had some funky skin/rash stuff going on too, but we stuck it out.

He still gets tummy aches sometimes, but nothing like the first couple of days of suprax. (he's had stomach aches through out his lyme experience). His skin has continued to do some funky things as well (including a scratch like mark that came and went in 12 hours on his face).

I hope this helps. I haven't seen a lot of folks with experience with suprax, as it is only available for kids, but the doc says that it is an excellent medication for lyme.

Best of luck.

I would do the cscan. Better be safe than sorry.

If the concern is too much radiation exposure, why not ask for an MRI instead?

Won't that reveal the same info?

Just my thoughts as a mom who needs to take care of child and still recognize that dad has a say in this too.

Good luck!

carly.

thanks guys. We opted for the ct scan, and also had blood and urine tests. Now we just wait..

My guess is some kind of herx. We were at the drs once before when his knee locked up. Wondering if there is somethiing in that area that is just locking up.

will keep you posted

ok so it came back impacted stool

He is still in pain and is now having severe breath hunger. this has never happened to him before

I don't know what to do for him. He keeps holding his breath and then cough and looks like he is gagging.

I gave him benadryl to hopefully make him a little sleepy so he can relax.

as for me, i am going to jump out of my skin. I can't watch him go through what i've gone through. My 4 year old keeps asking if he is going to die!!! I want to go back to Mexico!

He may be holding his breath due to the discomfort and pain.

I am so sorry but glad it wasn't his appendix.

Did they give him a stool softener?

Keep us updated please.

Hugs,

Geneal

I'm sorry but it is very important to keep children detoxing also during this trying to heal process.

You really need to look into somethings that will help your son have regular bowel movements. Very regular, like normal people.

Is the child on abx? Are you replacing good bacteria in the gut that is being killed with the bad bacteria?

What type supplemention and vitamins might your child be needing?

Many of us adults experience so many of the same deficiencies? Something seems to be robbing our hormones, Vits, minerals, etc etc.

Could they also be happening to a child's immune system and their bodies ability to fight these horrible bacteria, virus, parasites?

dmbfan, Mom, my heart is right there with you. My only difference is...I'm just the grandmother.
But a grandmother that is with them sometimes 5 times a week. I've been educated the hard way.

I hope you find some relief for your child very soon. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Pam
