Hi all--

If you are experiencing leg pain(specifically the kind where you have muscle tightness/twitching/raw nerves/cramping/feel like they just run a marathon) legs, you may be PROFOUNDLY deficient in magnesium....not just low but PROFOUNDLY deficient....

If you have headaches, please google "magesium deficiency" and headaches...There are some interesting articles on this in PubMed as well...

If you have an erratic heartbeat, please check into magnesium deficiency....

YOU MAY EITHER SUFFER FROM "HYPOMAGNESEMIA" or "MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY"....

An overview of hypomagnesemia may be found at the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypomagnesemia

How do you know if you have this condition??? If you're quite low on just a regular metabolic panel test, then you should DEFINITELY look into this further....Also, there is a special bloodtest specifically for mag deficiency which examines your levels inside the red blood cells...

My story: BEFORE I treated for babs, my mag levels were in the normal range; AFTER treating for babs my mag levels ARE SEVERELY DEFICIENT..I have hypomagnesmia..I was only taking 200 mg a day of mag and that wasn't enough for me....In just three days of bumping my oral dose of mag to 800 mg Glycinate and also receiving Mag injections (haven't done the IVs yet)...my pain has DRAMATICALLY DECREASED AND MY ENERGY LEVEL HAS SKYROCKETED!!!

I really hope this helps someone on this board who may be suffering....

Thank you, thank you!

My daughter's leg pains have increased steadily since being on treatment for Babesia. She is in misery to even move her legs, let alone put weight on them.

She is now in a wheel chair.

I will check this out right away!!!

Hi MarlaSue,

It may be that your GP or PCP can give magnesium shots. If not, then your LLMD. These are intramuscular shots.

Go for it!

Hi all--

Just to clarify, I don't want to imply that treatment for babesia caused me to be severely deficient in magnesium. In other words, I'm not trying to draw or implicate any correlation between babs meds and mag deficiency...If you Google "magnesium deficiency" you will see a list of antibiotics that can cause mag deficiency and I don't see Mepron, azithromycin, or artemisinin listed....

From all of the medical literature I've read and from some of Bryan Rosner's comments, I strongly feel that magnesium deficiencies in lyme patients are often misinterpreted as lyme symptoms....I really encourage you guys to read about magnesium deficiency as it is linked to irregular heartbeats, severe leg pain, cognitive dysfunction, headaches...I was taking 200 mg a day of mag (MagTabs specifically) and still wound up with Hypomagnesemia....

Thanks for bumping up this old post!

I had forgotten how helpful magnesium can be. Specifically magnesium malate.

Hoping it helps others as well.
