It's quite possible that those who are chronically infected with borreliosis/Lyme also have collateral conditions which may give additional symptoms.
n Evidence has shown that the hypothalamic-pituitary link is malfunctioning, causing pituitary suppression. Pituitary and endocrine abnormalities could be quite common.
n It is possible that the cellular hormone receptors may be blocked. For example, thyroid receptors could be blocked resulting in symptoms of subclinical hypothyroidism. This implies that blood testing may not pick up the hypothyroidism, as there will be more thyroid hormone in the blood and less in the cells due to the receptor blockade.

Is this why just one day of flagyl after 5 months of heavy non cyst abx now I feel way better??? Perhaps the abx killed the active, but the cysts where still blocking the recp? And flagyl is taking out the remaining blockade? Any comments?

Brainstorm thought, MAYBE thats why I have been terriblely depressed too. And gee, after 2 days on flagyl I am actually awake at 11am. thats a first for a VERY LONG TIME. Nurotransmitters cant flow because the sites are blocked the lyme cysts? interesting notion. I have had depression like forever, and 32 yrs infected. Thx keeb lookin at the site again now.

James, no, the cysts would be far larger than the neurotransmitter sites.
The cysts just sit there, like a seed, waiting to grow again.

My understanding is that Thyroid receptor sites and other hormone receptor sites are blocked by the Neurotoxin that the Lyme produces, together with the ongoing inflammatory response from the lyme and these toxins. this article explains the clinical findings
In addition to this obviously the spirochete loves the glands and have been shown to especially effect the pituitary and adrenal glands - my LLMD says he beleives they actually like to live inside both and that is why my adrnal output responded and recovered dramatically on IV Rocephin.
