Does anyone else have pain in the BACK of your head...right about where the spine would meet the skull area. This area has hurt for 2 years and of course worsens with herxing...anyone know why the pain is there...if it is Lyme or co's that cause it? I am herxing pretty badly lately...everything hurts, but this pain grabs my attention for some reason. Is there anything that helps this? I am in pain management, but very little helps any pain I have.

Thanks for opinions.

It is lyme.I asked Dr j in Ct for it.My son complains and I do have that pain very often.

IT IS CAUSE by lyme , preasuring the spine ..look at chiari .Do search in google .

hopefully we are not developing chiari symtoms...read thier storis.I am not trying to scare you ....but if you read stories...I fell like I have something in common.

You have had it for very long .Me too.I was just trying to figure out my pain.Nothing helps. It comes and goes.Maybe lyme has created pressure right there.I am just suggesting .I am not a dr.

Just ofering my opinion.

I have this really bad too. It's mostly on the right side in the hollow of my neck right below the base of my skull. It radiates to my right sinus, ear and eye and also down into my shoulder, arm and back.

I wish I knew what exactly was causing it. I know I have arthritis in my neck but don't know if it's the cause. It does get worse w/herxing.

I don't want to think about chiari. Would this show up on MRI? I just had one so I'm curious. How about x-ray? Doesn't chiari need surgery? Could chiari go away w/abx treatment. I read about it a long time ago when I was trying to figure out what was wrong w/me. A lot of symptoms matched.

Isn't it that the spinal canal opening is too small? Couldn't that be caused by inflammation from Lyme?

Wow, never heard of this. But just read about it at Mayo, I have many of the symptoms on the list...scary: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/chiari-malformation/DS00839

First time I have hoped something was Lyme!

Mine comes and goes too...is chiari constant or does it come and go.

I definitely have to do more research...thanks very much.

Usually headaches in the back of the head are caused by Babs.

Maybe if we have a tendency toward chiari and then have swelling in the brain... the brain pushes downward.

I know I read the symptoms prior to finding out I had Lyme... sounded like me!!

I had terrible neck pain off and on all my life. [have had Lyme most of my life too] While going through treatment the pain was AWFUL.

Each herx was worse than the one prior! But this pain [for the most part] went away after about a year of treatment.

Hope it subsides soon, Lymebytes! [Smile]

I have talked to somebody that did 7 MRI and is hard to see ( depend on specialist ) if Chiari is involved .A very small movement -will make chiari and is not easy to catch.

I am wondering myself.Having it for very long time has alreday caused permanent damages.

I had brain swelling and my son as well.Since than started beeing worst.Yes -it is hard and maybe imposible to find a specialit that will make a link of it.Do I want to do a surgery .I do not think so.

I think LYME and company causes it.The later stage you are the more of that problem you have.My right side -pain -is horrible .My chiropractic adjust it often.

They said 12 year ago as I had arthritis on my neck. That time I had TMJ problems and migrane for the first time also. The X -ray would show the arthritis on my neck. That is when I was introduced to GARINI -european strain that atacks the CNS.

NONE of the Drs had a clue.I used to change pillows.I start getting used to be in pain.

Well it was lyme since than .I just did nto know.

I found it out myself when all the drs in the last 20 years misdiagnosed me.I have seen TONS of them.

It was LYME and company all along.

by the way my babs is not really showing for the moment as active in me and I still have this pain.RIGHT NOW!

That has been my biggest problem since I contracted lyme. It has lessened in severity and duration since I started treatment for babs.

All the neck symptoms (lymetoo) sound like me as well...years of neck pain, but also had like 3 whiplashes (rear ended 3 times) and then migraines and then vertigo....then 10 years later exploding Lyme Disease.

You know if I think about it, it did go away for quite awhile...now its back and worse than ever, but I am herxing too.. My son also gets this pain and I told him about chiari this morning, and he said, "Oh, great now I need my brain removed!" [lol] (gotta love that kid!) I said, "No, I don't think a lobotomy will be necessary...lets just hope it is a Lyme symptom that will disappear!"

Interesting about Babs, I have tested over and over and don't test pos for babs and do not have any babs symptoms...now I am wondering about that!

Lymetoo...did you have babs? If so, did it go away with babs treatment too or Lyme treatment?

Thanks everyone

Yes, I had babs. I used to have terrible headaches. And the headaches were worse when herxing.. no doubt.

Lymetoo - so do you think the back of the head pain is babs too?

Funny -I use to get headaches, I don't much anymore. I do have an occassional migraine, as I have for years. I remember when I became symptomatic w/LD my head hurt all over - it was bad. Seems like much of it has resolved with LD treatment, except the back of my head. Now it was really hurting yesterday and this morning and has now stopped..for awhile I am sure.

It is so hard to figure out what symptom belongs to which disease.

I am late coming into this discussion, but glad I found your posts, thank you everyone.

I had very bad neck pain that caused or were part of (?) a migraine for the past three days. I'm sure my brain was swelling too.

I didn't test positive for babs or any of the co-infections. Maybe it is because I have had Lyme for over 30 years(?)

What works? Is it really a herx? I got these before I even knew I had lyme or started treatment.

In my searching for answers, I found an article about ammonia in the brain and suggestions to use L-Lysine. Has anyone tried this?

oh man i've had this pretty bad recently. it's from my ears back and to the base of my skull.

i thought the glands were swollen but they're not. then i thought an infection from the diverticulitis was going crazy, then i thought.....well you get the idea.

so now i'm hoping the flagyl and cipro will help a little.
