I was thinking...if I found out there was something wrong with one of my kiddos, I'd get a second opinion even though I think our pediatrician is excellent.
So, I know I have Lyme. I have an excellent LLMD whom I fly to see and talk on the phone since he's all the way in MO.
Still, I relapsed recently.
Would it make sense to try to get into another LLMD (I was thinking of one I heard about in Tampa)? Would the "two heads are better than one" theory help me in any way?
I know it adds an extra expense. My health is worth it. But, would it add too much confusion with the treatment?

I go to a LLMD, and a neurologist who is going to start me on IVIG. I guess the LLMD wanted the neurologist to prescribe it.

I think there is too much confusion. You would most likely take your child for a second opinion, then choose one doctor.
You can ask so much around here about treatment styles, I think it's best to go with one and stick with him. If you're not happy with your treatment, then get another opinion and decide who you are going to stick with.

I wouldn't unless you're SURE this dr is WELL-versed in Lyme disease treatment. I didn't know there was one in Tampa. Do tell!
Otherwise, you WILL be confused.
oh.. I found the one in Tampa. Not sure that person is that well-versed in Lyme treatment. If you do decide to check it out... I'd still stay with one dr.

I left that doctor you are seeing now due to similar problems, I am going to a new LLMD about 150 miles to the left of the one you are seeing that in my opinion is head and shoulders better and success rates are much higher.

I see two, one's a Dr. D advocate and one is a more intergrative MD type. I think that they are both good, but I'm currently followingn Dr. D's protocol only. I'll switch to a more Buhner-like protocol after I reach better health or plateau. I think that in the righ context, having two LLMDs may work. Ultimately, you have to try to choose one treatment over another and bouncing ideas off of both may work, but you can only adhere to one of their treatment regemin, so......keep it straight.

its tough to juggle and can drive you crazy.
In the end you can only do one protocol. That being said I saw one who was more about diet and fungal prevention, so i kept them on board. And that prtocol has helped me to stay on the abx longer.

I also left the LLMD you are seeing, in 4 months after changing I am now a totally different person.
I could not bare to be awake as I was so ill, I was fitting and my anxiety and depression was so severe (never experienced it before treatment) I was at my wits end - I was told by this LLMD to 'try taking a bit of flagyl or Biaxin' if I was worried about my brain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With my new LLMD's approach I am physically 40% better and mentally 80% better - still a very long way to go but know I will get better now.
So I would say YES get a second opinion SOON.

Thank you for your replies. It seems this disease can take an otherwise confident and intelligent person and render them insecure and confused.
I appreciate the feedback.
I have an appointment in about 2 weeks with my LLMD. I suppose I will ask tons of questions and hope to get a better understanding of treatment and outcomes expected.

Our son sees two llmd's, but we were advised to do so by our initial doc. The two work in tandem, and have a mutual respect for each other. One is a GP/ilads doc, the other a pedi ID doc that is lyme friendly.
The ID doc orders all the blood work to rule out ohter potential medical concerns, and refers us to specialists for the same purpose. The Ilads doc is the one who determines the course of treatment.
This type of situation can work well if you have docs that work well together to blend their respective areas of expertise, but I suspect this kind of tandem work is unique.
I'm not sure that this type of arrangement is an option where you live, so in your case I'd suggesting going with the doc that you are most comfortable with.

i have 5 LLMD's.. 3 in CA, and 2 in NJ. my CA Drs all agree and assist with my treatment. i see my main one once every 4 wks.
i see/consult the others once every 6 wks. my NJ Drs are there for safety when i'm in the area (i grew up there). i'll see them once a year.
no one Dr knows everything, therefore, i think a compilation of minds is best. -- sonicbmx

Remember everyone, I'm doing patient reports still. In-fact I always will be since new LLMD's are constantly beinged added to the list daily and new patient reports are always coming out.
Reports are arranged in this format: Your report is given as though you're telling someone who is about to see your doctor for the very first time in order to get treatment. What is it that patient should know about your particular doctor?
Anyone is welcome to PM me to update the list. No matter whether your report is positive or negative. The information is always anonymous, and I do share the data with BettyG every so often when the updates are suffiently worthwhile.

I was thinking of keeping my insurance paid for doc in addition to the new LLMD I'll see that doesn't take insurance. Hoping I won't get conflicting advice and have to make a call...........
