Hi, I have seen so many cases of Lyme patients with "psoriasis" or "Eczema".

I now have a friend with psoriasis and tinea versicolor, and she is wondering about the possible connection with Lyme.

She also has a history of undertreated Lyme, with current active symptoms.

I am having a hard time finding info on this connection.

Does anybody have any experiences or any resources that I could point her to with regard to Lyme and psoriasis and skin conditions?

Thank you!

I was wondering about this too.

There was someone I refered here that had had a tick bite, rash, illness and such. The Dr even "suspected" Lyme.

Test of course came back Neg. He was the Dx with Psoriatic Arthritis.

I have been looking for info about connection too. I did find something and now have lost that info [bonk]

Hope to find some insight here [Smile]

I don't know about the connection, but when I was growing up I had "ezcema rashes" a LOT (and this was after I remeber the tick bite). I'd usually have them in the same spots -- under my knee and the area of the arm opposite the elbow.

I had it all during high school and then some through college and then it just disappeared. Not sure now what it was or if it was connected to the lyme or not. But I wonder about it all the time.

I have an "eczema" rash on my upper arms which an allergist diagnosed.

I asked my LLMD about it and he said that it was coming from my liver and the allergist was wrong. [bonk]

He said that as we address the Lyme, and I work on detox it will go away. I don't really know whether I believe him or not. [Roll Eyes]

Lyme is associated with psoriatic arthritis -- a particular type of arthritis that causes both psoriasis and arthritic symptoms.

Since Lyme attacks organs and the skin is the

largest organ, it makes sense to have skin

problems.

I have eczema which I believe is Lyme

related. In the last year, I have had an

abundance of skin problems; warts, molds, skin

tags, Petechiae, acne like I've never had,

unexplained skin rashes.

I really think our Drs, even the LLMDs are not really connecting skin problems w/Lyme and co's enough or at all.

I think it would be worthwhile to try some topical antibiotics, and not just an antifungal for the tinea, but antibiotics or herbal antimicrobials, on the affected areas to see if it would help & what kind of response one would get.

For the past couple of weeks, I've been aggressively applying various herbal topicals on a really bad rash that I've had, and it's now mostly gone. In the process, I've been herxing badly. This would imply that there area lot of bugs in my skin that aren't getting touched by the oral antibiotics/herbs that I've been taking, because I wasn't herxing much from them.

I plan on discussing this with my LLMD at my next appointment.

I'm still waiting for results of the biopsy that was done of the rash about 10 days ago. I'm anxious to hear what it shows.

Would you have any more info on this, such as any references? I have a friend with that type of psoriasis - she also has 5 dogs and I wonder if she has Lyme as a cause of this psoriasis.

Thanks you guys. We all seem to be on the same page, but it seems like there is not that much scientific info out there on this subject. The psoriatic arthritis sort of speaks for itself, but it is still not a direct one. (It is operating under the rheumatoid guise)

I will make sure that my friend see this and keeps checking in. It is very interesting and I see it so often! I just wish there was more real research on it.

I was diagnosed with eczema for the first time back in 1985 or 1986. It was actually on my left forearm - the entire length of it. This was actually before my 'flea bite year' of 1989/90, but I blame the introduction of wireless technology for that rash.

Mystery in the Skin:

http://www.feb.se/ARTICLES/OlleJ.html

When I really started to get bad with Lyme I developed eczema (or some doctors even called it impetigo) on my face. Then later, another rash at the base of my tailbone which was initially diagnosed as eczema, but turned out to be psoriasis.

This tailbone rash may have been related to yeast or food allergies because diet was what got rid of this skin condition, the removal of milk, eggs, grains. It wasn't until later, after the rash had cleared, that I received treatment for Lyme.
