I wish I did not need these meds, but depresssion is four generations in my family . Undoubtedly, it is genetic .
With the meds , I am normal , laugh , eat , and function etc... Without them, I have ZERO appetite , feel anxious , and feel like a cloud of relentless doom is over my head . Say what you want , but I know WAY TOO many people who these meds have given normal lives to.
Those I feel sad for are those who do not respond to meds and are stuck with suffering .

I've been on Paxil for 15 years or more. It really cured my social anxiety disorder. Depression and anxiety run in my family (we are all CRAZY LOL) and the Lyme is just the icing on the cake. I'm going to try and go off after I'm done with Lyme treatment to see what happens.
While I think they are wildly over prescribed in my case Paxil has truely changed my life. I was with my psychiatrist for several years before she prescribed anything so she's not one to get out the prescription pad for just anything.

It is good news that two of you have found something that works. My daughter went for many years as a guinea pig for many psychiatrists while not improving. Even after the late diagnosis of Lyme, there still was no magic medicine to help her.
She has had improvement since going to a clinic for brain damaged patients and finally discovering what parts of the brain have been damaged by disease and a trauma.
Almost all of the psych meds would never have been the right ones for the job. They did not help the damaged portions of her brain.
I wish she had been so lucky to have found the right meds prior to us spending a fortune on the wrong ones and bad advise. lmt

I showed improvement with Wellbutrin with Lyme Disease and potentially Bartonella.

I've been on anti-deps for about 18 yrs, have had Lyme for about 49 yrs.
I'm currently trying to get off of them, but not sure I can do it!! I'm beginning to feel pretty low and not sleeping well.

There was an article in the Wall St. Journal about a month ago that reported that a study was done. They found that many anti-depressants were no more effective then placebo or light exercise...
It's not my opinion - it's just the findings of a study. The guys on Wall St. like to know this stuff for profit motive. They like to know if one of their stocks is going to get hit.
I don't take anti-depressants. I don't like to mess with my brain chemistry with pharmaceuticals too much - if I can avoid it. Too many unknown side effects...
