Ok, so I've heard that even the sublingual ones aren't absorbed so great, and if you don't wanna do the shots, a gross alternative is:
"Make your own B-12 intra-nasal supplement. It is cheap, easy and best done behind closed doors. Obtain your doctor's OK before trying this procedure. Take any B-12 tablet (between 100 to 1,000 mcg) and grind it into a powder between two tablespoons. Add water, just a few drops at a time, to make a soft paste. With a ``Q-Tip,'' its generic equivalent, or your clean pinkie finger, gently swab the paste inside your nose up to a comfortable level. Do not push; use no force whatsoever. The excipients (tableting ingredients) are more likely to bother your schnoz than the B-12 is. If it irritates you, try using less, or a different brand of tablet. I'd try this two times a week for a month or two."
Perque B12. expensive. 2000 mcg. i take 2 3x day. helpful, better than sub-q, i think.

I use the NSI sublingual B-12.
The sublingual does the trick for me. My B-12 was very low the first time it was checked and now it's very high (which is OK because it's water soluable).
I used to use "B-Tabs" - can't remember the manufacfturer but it's easier to order from vitacost.

Jarrow brand, comes in a 2,000mcg or 5,000mcg dose. Buy it at the health food store or online

Ya what sammy said. Get the methylcobalamin from jarrow. They have a 1000 and 5000mcg lozenge. It contains xylitol and cherry flavor. None of that sorbitol bull**** that the other sublingual brands have. Sorbitol feeds bacteria its obvious as I get bad breath from it. Methylcobalamin is also the best form of b12.
If you take a high enough dose of b12, sublingual or oral, some will be absorbed. I read a study on pubmed that said if you eat enough it is absorbed via a mechanism independent of intrinsic factor. I'd recommend the 5000mcg lozenges from jarrow (you can get them at iherb.com), if you can't get the intramuscular injections of methylcobalamin (methyl-b12).
Oh vitacost.com also sells the jarrows and their own brand of methylcobalamin 5mg's (5,000mcg).

A certain percentage of the population (and this is not even considering what lyme can do) cannot efficiently convert dietary B-12 to the Methylcobalamin B-12 form, which is neuroprotective, amongst other things.
There is a gene test (blood) that can be done to see if you have this problem, and in this case, Methylcobalamin will be of even greater benefit to you.
