Do people usually go to their local internist to get bicillin shots or have a spouse do it at home? I read there could be compilications if you inject it in the wrong place. I tried to get my local internist to do it and they refused. My LLMD is over 2 hours away so I can't travel there twice a week. Also, I was prescibed an IV glutathione drip and I can't find anyone to give it to me. I spent 3 hours today calling nurse services, doctors, and hospitals. Any ideas?

My spouse took a one-hour workshop on how to do injections, and that has worked pretty well for us over the last year.

We do the bicillin injections at home, and apart from a couple of painful moments, I am glad that we've been able to work it out this way, without needing to go to a medical office for the shots.

I have a visiting nurse service come in and do it in my home, and my insurance covers it.

However when I have missed them for one reason or another, I have had a family member give it to me, and even gave it to myself once. I didn't think it was any big deal at all.

My only problem with giving it to myself is difficulty with holding the needle steady at an awkward angle while injecting it slowly.

My 18 year old loves to give them to me.

for the IV glutathione, you need to find an alternative doctor, open to the idea. these are the guys and gals who can give you IV myer's cocktails (vitamin powerhouse) and IV glutathione, etc.

many do it right in their own offices.

if you find a list of alternative or integrative docs in your area, you can go thru and call each one, and if someone doesn't offer, you can ask if they know a doc nearby who dies.

My husband gives me the IM bicillin shots - the nurse at our LLMD's gave us about a 10 minute lesson

She drew on my butt with a pen, actually!

Anyway, he's doing a great job - 95% of the time I don't feel a thing.

We do it over about 5 minutes, I lie flat on my stomach and watch something to hold my interest on tv.

Piece of cake!

I am doing my own bicillin shots. It's a little scary, but I have the method down! I look in the mirror, map out my bum, draw a dot close to where I plan to administer the shot, ice the area for awhile (very helpful), lie face down, aim the needle, stick it in, pull back to make sure there is no blood in the syringe, plunge that baby in.

I watched several videos on YouTube about how to administer injections. There was at least one on penicillin specifically. The videos were very helpful, though you should also read the instructions to make sure you're hitting the right spots. Having a friend/spouse watch the videos would also be very helpful, I'm sure.

It's not that hard. The ice helps the pain considerably.

My husband gives me the shots, and you can get glutathione in a suppository form from wellness pharmacy.

Aloha,

I go to my local PCP doc and her nurse gives them to me. insurance covers this, smiles!

my LLMD is in california, and I'm in hawaii - so my PCP is fortunately going along with what my LLMD says and helping me get things paid for...

good luck!

hugs & love~
