Just noticed under the thread "TOO MANY TICKS" that a couple people have horses they ride.
One of my biggest problems is keeping flies off mine.
When we take our horses camping in "TickLand" there seems to be no way to keep them off the horses!
Before I suspected Lyme - I was wondering if the fly sprays I use were giving me the Neurological problems I have.
Anyone else have, or ride horses?
What is your best pest control?

Well you can protect your clothing, I don't know if this helps, but there are clothes made to repel insects and insect sprays for clothes, rather than spraying your skin.
i had to sell my farm and find homes for all my horses about 12 years ago when i started treatment. i haven't lived with them since then. i used to figure out what sprays worked best...once it was people stuff by avon.
i'm ready to ride again...but will have to board or half lease or something. i never know for sure if i will be ok enough to do chores.
but i really am concerned about owning a horse now and preventing it from getting lyme.
except for being a mom i don't think anything else is more important to me than riding. i hope i don't have to give it up cuz of this disease

Wow, this really makes me sad. I can't remember not knowing how to ride a horse. I spent my whole growing up years on a horse. I don't ride now.
I never saw a tick not once on any of my horses nor did I ever find one on myself. I know there were ticks as I used to pick them off the kittens in the haystacks.
I guess maybe Nevada and Idaho really didn't have Lyme back then. Scary now, as my daughter was infected in Idaho, so I now it's there now.
Just some FYI from the past..............wonder if they were really there and I just never noticed?
