I am on a new regimen of antibiotics including doryx levaquin plaq malarone and art. This is my last shot at orals. If Im not any better by my next appointment which is in July Dr is starting me on IVs. My mother and grandmother are both allergic to levaquin. Hopefully Im not because I am going to take it anyway. I heard it was a VERY strong abx so Im quite scared of starting it. What would allergic reaction signs be- throat closing hives and rapid heartbeat right? I just wanna be sure that I can tell the difference between a herx and an allergy. Does anyone know if I do have an allergic reaction would it be better to take benadryl or charcoal?

Thanks...

Levaquin is quite powerful, yes. I found out I was allergic to it a few months ago (worrisome adverse reactions). I had troubles breathing, my legs were killing me, itching, and just "out of it". I would take Benadryl for allergic reactions, if you do get any. Good luck to you!

Be very careful and be aware that Levaquin [and other quinolones] can cause permanent damage.

I couldn't take it. It gave me excruciating nerve pain and I greatly feared it becoming permanent!

Take care.

I was on Cipro (which is close), and I could not take it. I experienced severe shooting, stroke-like head pains, and my knees itched like crazy, extreme anxiety, too.

Not sure if it was an allergy, but I didn't want (any more) brain damage.
