My doc has me on a short course of Flagyl, daily. When I'm done we re-evaluate my combo.
My question is: don't most people pulse it? How often, and why? What about the other cyst busters, Tindamax and Plaquenil?

Don't know alot about this, but will give my LLMD's protocol:
2 weeks on / 1 week off etc...
One reason for this is to prevent neuropathy for which Flagyl is known to cause and worrisome for Lyme patients who already have this sx!
There may also be reasons to arrest bacterial resistance?

I have pulsed both flagyl and tindamax. Each at either 5 days each month, or 2 weeks on/2 weeks off.
Plaquenil - I took that every day, never pulsed.
That answers the "how often" not the "why"... Sorry I can't answer the why...

i don't know his reasoning but i'm on 250 mg twice a day for a month.

Sometimes it is used every day, and then pulsed. I took it daily for 3 months at 500 mg 4x per day and then it was pulsed 3 days on 4 days off 2 weeks in a row, then 2 weeks off and repeated from there. It's a great drug for Lyme and helped me tremendously! Its good with combinations of antibiotics like Biaxin and Ceftin, or Bicillin LA with Biaxin.

My doctos said that it need to be at least 2 weeks in the body ( to reach certain level ) and hit hard the lyme cyst , based on last findings.
So I take it based on her saying 2 weeks on and 3 weeks off.
BEfore she said 1 week on and 3 weeks off..but now it need to be at least 2 weeks on .
By the way 2x 500mg a day.

I took it 250mg twice a day (total 500mg a day), for six weeks.
Bleah, bleah, and BLEAH!!!! Thought it would never be over!
But:
It was SO worth it!
Don't tell anyone I said that!!

I tollerate Tinidazole well and Brorson and Brorson studies show it is actually more effective than Flagyl and better tollerated - also look at the properties of Grapefruit Seed extract as a cyst buster

i'm on that 250 once a day until i can ramp up.
ugh, something taste terrible tho. it's either the flagyl, biaxin, or cipro. a bad metallic taste.
i ramp up in two days to one of each in the morning and one at night.
so far i've had no side effects.
the heart palpitations are gone tho and that's good and my drooping eyelid looks a little better. also those boinky dots on my legs and stomach seem to be getting smaller.

I am taking Flagyl - pulsing 3 weeks on, one week off 500 mg 2x daily. I am in my second round of this right now. I am tolerating it okay and remaining hopeful I'll see some results. TS

It's interesting, reading the differences of opinions, regarding each LLMD. Dr. J in SC, has me continuing with Rifampin [150 mg. X 2] and Doxy [100 X 2], and adding Omnicef [300 x 2], each day; while adding Flagyl [ 500 x 2] in only the third week. I'm on the Rifampin, Doxy, Omnicef combination on M, W, and F. He has me taking the fourth week off.
So most doctors think that one week of Flagyl per month, is not enough?

I took Flagyl 1000mg a day, everyday for 5 months. I had no side effects from flagyl. Tindamax on the other hand caused me some neuropathy in my one foot and I pulse that instead.

I am currently on Flagyl & zith for three more days.
My LLMD put me on 500mg 3x's daily of Flagyl for 30 days. The Flagyl can cause a strong metallic taste, as it has done this to me.
Also, I am not sure if it is related, but my hip has been hurting a lot. I have never had this symptom. May be caused by the Flagyl.
I only have 3 days left and then it's off to ceftin and zith.
Also, my liver enzyme numbers were elevated which I have also never had, so we are only doing the 30 days, just in case.
I know other ppl who have done very well on flagyl and swear by it. I am happy for them.

Many patients I know got well on the Brorson and Brorson/Martin Atkinson Barr protocol, it goes way back but worked by pulsing different Ab's as Follows to cover all forms - discuss this option with your doctor:-
AB's taken in 2 week cycles
For motile Spiro's 2 weeks of a penicillin (amoxy or bicillin) or cephlasporin (ceftin or similar) then stop this and take
For L-Form 2 weeks of a macrolide or doxy then stop this and take
For Cyst Forms 2 weeks of Flagyl or tini then stop this then have a 2 week break - the 2 week break allows the cysts to open and release spiros and then you repeat the whole process by restarting the regime again-This week break also gives you time to do intense detox
There are lots of studies etc on this and again I know many people who got well on this regime
