Urgent Request for letters/emails of support to show " Under Our Skin" at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Film Festival, November 2008.

I am asking for letters of support to be written to show this documentary at The Rehoboth Beach annual Independent Film Festival. This is the eleventh season that Rehoboth Beach, DE has held a major Film Festival.

The film Society is a 501(C)(3)not for profit organization, operating in Southern Delaware. The organization's mission is the promotion of the art form of film via outreach and education in the community for all age groups.

The membership, according to its website, is in excess of thirteen hundred individuals while serving its community mission statement. More detailed information can be obtained at www.rehobothfilm.org.

The film society will be selecting an array of independent films, in various catagories, including documentaries, in the next several weeks for presentation at this years' festival.Sales for prior festivals indicate sales of over 20 thousand tickets for all films at the festival.
I believe, as a member of the Film Society, this would be a wonderful opportunity to show our support of the festival and of our new Lyme Documentary by writing letters to request that this film be screened there.

Please send letters by the end of July, 2008 to:

Mr. Joe Bilancio,
Film Festival Program Director,
Rehoboth Beach Film Society,
107 Truitt Avenue,
Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
[email protected]

I have written a sample letter to show important points to cover. Any Lymenet member is welcome to use my draft. For those individuals that would like to compose their own letters, I have the following suggestions.

1. Letters should be approximately one page long and use a business professional format. The festival commitee is extremely busy at this time of the year. We need to be concise in our requests and needs/reasons for this film to be presented.

2. Please give contact information for yourself including name, address, phone number and email address. The festival director may wish to contact us for additional feedback/ and or comments.

3. Please identify yourself as a chronic lyme disease patient and if applicable a member of your local areas' support group.

4. Any " local" references can be mentioned in your letter. For example, if you have been a Delaware resident, have family in this area, or vacationed here as a tie in. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE FROM DE TO WRITE A LETTER: ALL LYMENETTERS WELCOME!!!!!!

5. In closing, offer a statement of thanks, for considering our request.

6. Please add to this lymenet thread if you are able to participate or have positive feedback.

7. Finally, a heartfelt thank you for participating in this endeavor. I will keep you posted on our progress.

SAMPLE LETTER:

Dear Mr Bilancio,

I am writing a letter to you in support of screenings of " Under Our Skin" at the Rehoboth Beach Film Festival, November 5-9, 2008.

My name is ( fill in your name) and I reside in ( city, state). Most importantly, I am an individual with chronic lyme disease and coinfections. My life has been affected dramatically by this disease in ways similar to those individuals portrayed in this documentary.

I believe public outreach and education are integral parts of the prevention, increased awareness and development ot potential treatments of this terrifying disease.

Rehoboth Beach Film Society is in a unique position because of its importance in Southern Delaware cultural arts community to host screenings of this documentary. There have been no Film Festival screenings in the mid Atlantic region, south of the Tribecca Film Festival (NYC)since its release. There has been only one community screening in Kennett Square, Pa.( July 16) with no additional tristate viewings listed on the official website.

The state of Delaware is in the top five states in the United States per CDC statistics for newly acquired Lyme disease infections. Delaware currently has three support groups located in Wilmington, Middletown, and Millville.

The impact of the screening of this documentary would be enormous. It would be an asset to the Film Society to participate in this historic development.

Thank You for your considerations of including this film in your festival.

Sincerely Yours,

( Name and contact information).
