I'm so ready for some good news.

For those of you who have read and/or answered some of my other posts, thank you for your help again. [Smile]

Today's low blow from the lyme bug ~ my son's teeth are clearly discolored now from the meds. I thought or should I say hoped this was not the case for a few days now, but didn't say anything to anyone.

Today, someone confirmed for me, that I wasn't the only one noticing the grey/brownish color on his top teeth, and also covering most of the bottoms as well.

There is still a smidgen of white on the tops of the bottom teeth, but looks like that is on the way to changing too.

He is 3 years old. Where exactly is this nightmare going to end that everyone said "you caught it early, he'll be fine?" Nine or ten weeks ago...

Anyone know if this is temporary, or if it will also affect his grown up teeth?

He is currently taking Cefnir (sp?) and Clarithromyicin (sp?). Are there any other abx we can use???

Does anyone happen to have a remedy for this?

I called the pharmacist and he said, lyme disease is a lot worse than discolored teeth, which I know, but gosh he's only three... [Frown]

Is it the enamel that has changed color or is it that yucky antibiotic bug kill deposit that can be scraped off by the hygienist. See the dentist, maybe it'll scrape off.

I got the same thing from minocycline and the dentist was able to scrape it off - hope that helps.

From what I've read, it's a change of the flora in the mouth that causes staining.

Mine comes off at my regular dentist visits. They allow more time for me .... especially right after I got my braces off as my teeth were pretty much black.

One of those spinning electric toothbrushes helps me A LOT.

So sorry for your little guy.:-( If it is the flora, you can improve his mouth flora by getting some powdered probiotics and mixing them with a little water. Have him swish it around in his mouth. There is also childrens liquid that you can get in the health food store refrigerator section. Have him hold it in his mouth and swish it around.

Please make sure that he is taking a probiotic internally while he is on abx and for awhile afterwards because abx kill the good bacteria in the intestinal track as well as the mouth.

Thank you for all the replies. I'll try everything!

He is taking a probiotic, and I also have some powdered ones so I mixed some for him, but he didn't quite grasp the swishing thing. I'll keep trying it though, and will hope it helps and that it doesn't affect his permanent teeth.
