Hi im just wondering how many have had to take presciption pain medication due to lyme. I take 10/325 percocet 3 times a day. Any responses would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! brian [confused]

I limit myself to 5/325 Percocet, once daily in the evening. I should probably be taking more.

May I ask who prescribes your pain meds? Is it a LLMD? A pain specialist who knows the intricacies of Lyme, or a pain specialist who doesn't know a lot about lyme but can clearly see you're in a lot of pain?

My pain management doctor knows nothing about LYME.

He pretty much laughed me out of his office.

I take Xanax, Ativain, Klonopin, those types of things to deal with my excrusiating neck pain. It helps a ton. I have to take too many, tolerance.

Pain meds do nothing for me, I suppose because mine isn't the arthritic strain....or because mine went straight to neurological lyme.

I take Lyrica which is for neurological pain!

Lyrica did not work for me. I have these tight painful stabbing muscles in my neck and that didn't help at all for me. I guess it works for some people, but it really didn't for me.

Hi Notkrazybrian,

I finally gave in, when my pain got so bad I could hardly function, and started taking them.

I really don't like taking them, but they certainly enhance my quality of life.

I take them daily now and cannot even imagine what my life would be like, if I didn't.

I don't believe in addiction, unless you're taking them for the wrong reasons.

Dependence and tolerance can happen, even if you're taking them for the right reasons though.

I definitely couldn't continue my lyme and coinfection treatments without taking them.

I feel like doing whatever I have to do to get well is far more important.

I respect the fact it's a personal decision though.

Even though I take them, I still have quite a bit of pain, most days, so I'm always looking for other ways to further reduce it.

I hope this helps.

Love, Light, & Health,
Jennie

I take Cymbalta, 90 mg a day, which cut my pain in about half.

I take 800 mg of prescription ibuprophen almost every day.

When needed, a couple times per month, I take Vicodan, dosage is 5/500.

I've been prescribed Vicodin 7.5mgs, 3x/day for what

I thought were migraines. I've since been dx'd with

Lyme. The Vicodin didn't always help with the pain

(I guess that means it was neurological? I really

don't know.), but would make me care less about

the pain, if that makes any sense.

I need them, but don't take them unless I'm "dying" .. Most of my pain is from sciatica and from an old whiplash.... I'm sure Lyme figures in on this as well.

I found that a gluten-free diet and an anti-yeast diet helped my all-over body pain tremendously.....

OH! NOT TO MENTION SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT OF LYME AND BABESIA!!! [Roll Eyes]

My husband had to take Vicodin for about six months due to severe pain. He tried to limit himself to nighttime and alternate with Advil (which didn't do much).

Thankfully, that horrible pain has gone away. You can't heal if you are in that kind of pain and it's important to treat it.

Hi,

I am currently on 300 mg Ultram ER. It definitely helps a lot! If I don't take it, within 3-5 hours I have pain that is so bad I am crying/screaming and either pass out or am not able to answer questions or talk with someone.
Even with the Ultram ER I still have constant pain.

Does anyone know how Cymbalta compares to other pain meds? How big of a difference will it be from Ultram to Cymbalta?

i just don't tolerate them well at all.

I tried all kind of stuff for pain. The only prescription stuff was ... ...'celebrex'..., which cauased myriads of problems!

Ibuprofen helped some. Willow bark a little.
Hope you find something!

I take Darvocet only when needed. I try to hold out as long as I can.

I take Avinza - which is a time-released morphine. It helps to take the edge off the pain without making me feel wacky.

I also have percocet for the breakthough pain.

Vicodin didn't do much, but helped a little, so I take Norco when needed. It's the same meds as Vicodin but 10/325. I take three Advil with the Norco if I need more.

In the beginning I didn't take any painkillers. It wasn't until I was having good days that I even realized how much pain I was in, so when the pain would come back it would knock my socks off. I started the painkillers more than a year into treatment and take them only a few times per month.

I dont take any pain meds on a regular basis. About the only thing that works sometimes is tylenol with caffeine. Otherwise, nothing. Not because Im tough or anything, but because the pain meds dont do anything for me. No affect on the neuro crud or hellacious headaches. Early on I tried different stuff, but nothing worked. So instead, lots of ice packs, lots of head, skull, body massages, deep breathing, ....and prayers till it subsides!!

I have severe pain from lyme, coinfections and lyme arthritis in my major joints. I am on Darvocet N 100 twice a day , Zanaflex, a muscle relaxant 2m9 at bed time, and Lodine, a non steroidal anti inflammatory. I also see a chiropractor once a week and an accupuncturist twice a month. I would be bedridden if I didnt have this regiment. The rheumetologist has been the main source of my relief with prescribing the medications. I really statred to see progress when he and the chiropractor came on board. Good Luck and hope that you feel better!!!

My son , finally diagnosed with lyme this year

after being sick for six plus years, is currently

taking Avinza, MRSI ( for breakthrough pain ) ,

Lyrica, Valium, Xanaflex and Gabapentin (neurotin)

for pain and nerve issue management. Then there's

the list of immune-support items.
