my lyme doc, who has worked with the Dr. B for over 10 years, wants to do a dmsa chelate challenge on me to check for mercury. I have about 3 amalgams. he wants to do 1500 mg, one day thing, then collect urine and send out. I am worried that the dmsa will mobilize the mercury and screw everything for me.
I am getting better, but my ears and eye symptoms persist. should I do the dmsa challenge with my amalgams? I trust him, but wanted to check with others to see what happened with them.

jenin98,

I'm sure your doctor knows best, but I took no chances. I was in the same situation as you and I chose to remove the amalgams before doing the challenge.

I found a good biological dentist to remove the fillings. Afterward, I did test high in mercury.

I had no ill effects from removing the amalgams and in fact, the TMJ pain I had been suffering since lyme began went away and never returned. That was in June 06.

I'd wait until fillings are completely removed. When you remove all fillings, I believe this will be a true indication as to what is present.

I think the advice to see a biological dentist is the best. It's like getting a second opinion. Especially with mobilizing mercury, which is quite dangerous if not done right.

I have been told by a biological dentist and a Chelation specialist doctor that taking the DMSA challenge with fillings in is ok.......but chelation should NOT be started fully until after amalgams have been removed.

When i was a patient of Dr.B before he retired, he also said challenge with amalgams was ok.....

I know several people - including myself - who have done the challenge with fillings in, with no adverse effects. The amount of DMSA taken is calculated according to body weight. If you look at Doctor's data website you'll see the guidelines on this.
