Is it possible to get a urinary tract infection while on abx? Right now im taking Mepron and Biaxin. Last night i started getting a sort of stinging sensation and feeling like i had to pee constantly.

It only burns when i start to pee and then it feels fine. Its just that i always have that sort of feeling like i have to pee all the time.

The only thing i can come up with is a UTI. I have no clue how i would have gotten it since its much more unlikly for a guy to get it plus im already on abx.

Is it possible its a side effect of the mepron or biaxin?

Yes it is possible.

I got one recently while on amoxicillin and doxycyline.

I was stumped at first too because I thought I couldn't get a UTI while on abx, but you can.

So, what did u do? were you prescribed a different abx? Or just let what you were takeing take care of it?

There are gram negative and gram positive bacteria. I was on bactrim, and that only works against gram positive bacteria. Figures the UTI I was on was gram negative-stopped my lyme meds and took Cipro for a week.

Hey joe,

I just had one last week while on bactrim, which is usually used for UTI's. Ive gotten one on Biaxin before too.

It is possible. Can you go to the dr or urgent care to get your urine checked?

I was just put on Cipro for mine and in a few days felt relief.

Shoney- just saw your reply...now i understand how I got a UTI while on bactrim, i thought it was broad spectrum.
