i sent this to proudmom recently ... not sure if it is a duplicate of someone's above here or NOT! DELETED LINK; NO LONGER VALID! 10-08
Here are the Lyme Risk Assessments conducted by the US Army in the early 1990's. It covers many of the military locations in the US.
This information documents the presence of Lyme disease, the types of infected ticks, host animals carrying infected ticks, and the risk of contracting Lyme on each installation.
You may want to search for information about the new helmet developed to test for exposure to Lyme in the field.
Also, there's a report of Lyme Disease at the Marine Recruiting Station at Parris Island, SC. I hope that's the correct name.
The US Army takes Lyme disease seriously...so should we.
Be proactive for your own health's sake. If you don't you will regret it. *************************************

wow, look at all the supposed "no lyme" states.
i guess we're supposed to believe that the ticks in wisconsin hang around army camps only, trying to pick up soldiers.

Tanzi, that's exactly the information I was looking for.
Bettyg, that link doesn't work...that's what I was trying to use all morning.
Terry, thanks for the information. I wanted the site that had the links to all of the information, such as the species of ticks found and their different life stages.
Good point Mo.

mom, i deleted the link since it no longer works; did a few months ago when i accessed it then.
thanks for advising me it was no longer good! i edited my newbie links on this!

Tanzi & Terry's links are good, but incomplete. The link is only a list of the risk for each military installation in the US.
Unfortunately, the links don't include the entire US Army Lyme Risk Assessment report, which documents the tick infection rate, the species of ticks, and the life stages of the ticks found in each species at each installation.

hshb mom,
Do you have any info regarding the accessment and treatment of lyme and co by the army? I ned advice for how my son can proceed to get tested and treated ifhe feels he may be infected. He is at USMA, NY. Do they test and treat for co-infections?
thanks,
lymeparfait

lymeparfait, daise posted this information to help those enlisted in the military:
Medical Air Transport for Wounded Warriors, Veterans and Active Military
"...For background, if you haven't already, read dig/me, proudtoserve, GWvet and my posts here in General about active military and veterans with Lyme.
Have you been in contact with Colleen Nicolson? She's with Military Lyme Support on Yahoo Groups:
You might look at the thread with posts I copied here with information from Colleen, for example, about who to write to in the military / VA. Not that you'll get treatment paid for, but you can email your story of blood, sweat and tears--and that's something.
also:
Proudtoserve and GWvet wrote outstanding letters, recently--proudtoserves is meant for major press exposure. GWvet's is a letter of integrity to someone influential in the military. Have you noticed their threads here in the General fourm?
I got state Medicaid (and had to argue with the state which said veterans can go to the VA and do not need state Medicaid.)
What about getting Medicaid with your state?
Also, here's a link that might help you get Lyme prescriptions:
Parfait, you can do a search for military. I've seen many military-related posts in General. The "search" icon is just below the "Post New Topic" icon at the top of every page (Medical, General, Activism, etc...)
I don't have the specific information you need, but believe you'll find it at the Military Lyme Support Group at Yahoo.
If you'll post a new topic in General, someone will come along and give you the address for the Military support group.
