now i know alcohol and lyme are contraindicated so please please i dont need to hear any of that...

does anyone use alcohol, small amounts, to help fall asleep at night?

as some of you know ive been through every sleep aid and still sleep terribly and some other lyme patients mentioned a small glass of wine b4 bed for sleep as they use it successfully...

now i know regular excessive consumption is not a good idea as it is toxic on the live, etc, and we are already toxic but has anyone used it for getting to sleep?

id take waking up feeling worse than usual to not sleeping for the last 3 months..

anyway, im having a glass tonite so well see.

also, to let you all know, ive improved to 50% in the last month, seems the aggressive approach w/ dr H is working, finally, and I am feeling sooooo much better. 50% up from liek 10% is saying a lot in just over 6 months treatment.

i will post my updated protocol once i get around to it or better yet PM me and i can send you a copy. i am a bit leary of posting anything on here considering all the uproar recently of dr info postings...we dont need to lose our doctors for sure.

cheers

derek

I can't tolerate alcohol. Maybe a margarita or a saki once in a blue moon - that's it.

Maybe try marijuana? Groovy2 says it may actually kill bacteria.

It is well documented that using alcohol to sleep does NOT improve the quality of sleep..it worsens it.

You may feel good about falling asleep [I would too...] but your body will NOT get the rest/sleep it needs.

You also run the risk of getting yeast/candida that will get out of control.

So... that said... It's your choice.

Have you spoken to your dr about Xyrem??

I agree with Lymetoo. Alcohol may get you to sleep but you do not get a good quality sleep. I know I am a recovered alcoholic.

Ambien was helpful for me. I took it for a while. I'm not taking it now. My sleep quality has improved a bit after using the Cowden herbs & the LightWorks.

I've always been a "night owl" but sometimes you really need a break.

Depressants...give me right side migraines...I do think its infection related...but its happening.

However, I discovered with the scope (live blood microscopy) if I drank even 1 beer...I would find NO bugs in blood plasma, this result was comparable to my test on MMS and laruicidin.

No ABX has been able to clear the plasma 100%.

BUT, I choose not to drink whatsoever, since i feel so damn sick afterwards. I am trying to stick with natural sleep aids.

Hi Derek,

My response probably won't be popular, but here goes:

I say try the alcohol for a few nights. I know that alcohol is bad for us, and am not dismissing that.

But I think that if you find that a small or moderate amount of alcohol is the only thing that helps you fall asleep, then it's worth drinking it for a few days or maybe even up to a week to hopefully get your sleep patterns regulated.

Since chronic insomnia has to become a psychological issue (even if it's basis is medical/physical), if alcohol helps you fall asleep, it may end up helping your health in the long run if using it short-term helps you get over any anxiety about falling asleep.

But I wouldn't recommend alcohol as a long-term solution because it really doesn't give you better sleep, on top of being bad for lyme patients. But anything that helps you establish a better sleep pattern is worth giving a try for a bit in my opinion.

Let us know how the wine worked tonight! :-)

D: At my worst (b4 I even knew I had Lyme & Co), I would take a big ole bong hit (maybe 2), 2 glasses of wine, a xanax or two, and two tylenol pm's. I'd pass out for 2 hours and then I was WIDE AWAKE the rest of the night.

Insomnia was one of my worst symptoms so now when people ask why I like my naps it's because I didn't sleep for almost a decade!!

The ONLY thing that eventually helped me was treating the illness, which you're doing agressively and successfully.

You all know how much I love my xanax but even during the first 6 mos of my treatment, xanax didn't even touch the insomnia.

What DID really help was staying in a hot bath for at least 40 -60 minutes, then followed up with a xanax or two.

I got a compact cd player, rented excellent books on cd and just melted away all my restless anxiety/energy in the bath. I know you do the baths but have you stayed in that long a time?

Give it a try!!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help but CONGRATS on your improvement and this WILL pass as you get better. There is hope!
