The back of my skull where my head meets my neck feels swollen.

I've been fighting bad migraines for a couple of weeks now. I went to the chiro today and she said that area is actually a bit swollen. It is tender to the touch-right on the bottom of the skull.

I had to ice it down eariler, it hurt to even lay it on a pillow. Tried motrin and alleve-nothiing

when i press on the tender areas i can feel a "release" all the way to the front of my head.

Anyone else have this?

Also my face feels hot to the touch but my temp is 96.9. My face actually feels flush.

OUCH OUCH! That does make for problems. Sorry to hear it.

I have that problem also. Ice can help... but too much ice can make it worse.. so no sticking your head in an ice bucket... ok?

I also wrap a towel around the base of my head... and then pull up on it slightly and gently to stretch the bottom of the head away from the neck.

If you do this.. be sure the bottom of the skull isn't being pulled up.. so the towel needs to lay just above the base.

I sure wish I had some better advise other than a towel... but I don't know anything else.. besides a chiropractor and time... that helps this situation.

I once had a knowledgeable chiropractor do an occipital/atlas adjustment that eased the pressure there. Also have had cranial work done that eased the head bones.

I have heard that headaches back there can be a symptom of babesia.

I certainly experienced those, and I know I have babesia.

I have so much inflamation in the base of my neck that my PT wants me to get a new cervical spine X-ray. I haven't had one for years and she doesn't want to damage me.

I also do the towel thing, but a little differently. I sit (or lie down), curl my knees up as far as they will go, bend my head down - chin to chest, and put the towel toward the top of my head and pull down. At first I was doing it with my hands, but that was causing more pain because the shoulders were up.

I actually use a piece of linen rather than a towel because it's less bulky. I do it at least once a day and it works wonders.

Another fix is to take your hands, splay them across your scalp and press your thumbs into the tender area to release the knots. That also works well. Gently move from under the ears to the center of your neck. As the knots release, your thumbs wil more or less slide themselves toward the center. Make sure to do this below the "ridge"

My PT has shown me a lot of self-help moves. I just love her!

Occipital lymph nodes...

I've had swelling there before also. I think it was when I was on a certain antibiotic.

ok so this is starting to make more sense to me.

I just started enula for babs and taking artemisinin. Can you have a babs herx?

I just saw another post about brain swelling. Sounds like i have the same symptoms.

Weird thing happened during the night. I was laying propped up with pillows and ice on the back of my skull. I was stirred awake by this rush of bright light and this electric tingling around my body. The tension eased a little bit.

I still have pressure now, but not as bad.
