Anyone been on this combo or heard anything about this combination of drugs?

I know that Bactrim can treat babesia, and also bartonella and lyme.

So I was hoping that adding it to my Mepron/Zithromax would be a winning combo.

My LLMD said he would "look into it"...so if anyone has any documentation specific to the combination...please let me know.

Thanks Shandy! I think I knew that. [bonk]

You may not know, but did he give you the Bactrim to try to boost the anti-babesia action of Mepron, or did he give it to you moreso to treat bartonella?

Both maybe?

Anyways, that is good to know. My LLMD knows your LLMD so hopefully if I tell him that it will make him feel better about prescribing them together!!!

Good to see you back on here! [group hug]

Yeah, as Unexpected said, our LLMD uses Septra with the babs meds. He says it helps with bart.

I did bactrim (800mg 2 x a day) along with malarone (4 x a day) and zithromax.

It was a good combo.

Hugs,

Geneal

Our pediatric LLMD (Dr. J) has one of my sons on mepron, zith and bactrim for his lyme, bart and babs.

I saw an article somewhere that Bactrim helps prevent a Babesia relapse if you use it with the mepron and zith, so it sounds like a good idea to me!

Great info, thanks johnnyb.

For my current protocol, I'm debating between adding Bactrim or adding Rifampin (despite its drug interaction with Mepron....we would work around it)....with the main intention of treating my Bartonella. The thing I'm stressing about is that Rifampin is known as a Bartonella "specialty" if that makes sense....Bactrim/Septra seems to be lower on the list for Bart.....but who knows.

But heck, obviously if I can prevent babesia relapse....yipee! [Smile]

I might start a thread about my above question....I feel like I litter our board with tons of questions but I benefit from the experiences and results of such a large group of Lymies...it helps a lot.

Thanks again.
