SEE MY LLMD's REPLY BELOW as of 10/03/08..Thanks for everyone's help!!

I'm currently between llmd's and my primary doc doesn't know whether I should take a flu and/or pneumonia shot this year or not since I have lyme and babs and run a constant low-grade fever.

Has anyone here's llmd mentioned if it is OK to take the shot/s, or has anyone taken the shot/s with lyme/co-infections without a problem?

Thanks!
Jim

Back to taking the flu shot this year after two years of opting out due to LD. I'm doing a lot better, so I thought I'd try it, but I made sure to take the shot and not the mist - the shot is strictly dead virus.

Best, as always, is to check with your LLMD. I didn't and should have, but my son's pediatrician asked if I wanted the shot while my son was getting his year, and I just blurted out yes!

So - do as I say, not as I do, right???? Check with you LLMD but in any case, stay away from the mist.

The flu-shot is was made me sick. I was asymptomatic and never knew I was infected for a couple years, then I got that flu-shot and I've been on my back in pain ever since I got it two years ago. Just say no to flu-shots.

My LLMD will not allow any of her patients to get the Flu Shot...

My LLMD in Michigan and Florida both, insisted I take the flu vaccine. I had the pneumonia vaccine last year, which is valid for five years. I have not had any adverse affects from either and have not had the flu during the last eleven years.

I got the DPT (diptheria pertussis tetanus) vaccine two years ago, and became seriously ill right after. At that point I had been ill with lyme/babs/bart 3 years, but had made lots of progress.

Anywyas, after the shot, I relapsed horribly. I think it did something to my immune system.....my immune system just couldn't handle it. Within an hour I was on the couch, feeling like there were 50 lb weights strapped to me. I never really recovered, and still haven't made it back to the progress I had made 2 years ago.

I will never get another vaccine again.

Well now, I was wondering the same thing....

For about eleven years it was recommended by an excellent llmd that I not take the shot.

While I worked for labcorp and pre-diagnosis of lyme disease...that three shot regimen for

hepatitis also mad me violently ill...all three shots....

I contracted pneumonia two years out of three following that regimen and not getting flu shots.

I never liked to take them even before I had a diagnosis of lyme because they would always make

me ill. Also penicillin. Before I knew why! When I asked the doctors their only replies

were..."Hmmmm it should'nt do that....very interesting"...and that was that....

I believe I did take the pneumonia shot sometime after I had that three year contraction of what

was deemed to be either pneumonia or really unusual case of bronchitis...which happened to

me with my first IV of Ceftriaxone as well...when I would have had at least one pneumonia shot in me

less then three years from the IV.

I think the reason is that our immune systems are on alert due to the constant infection of

the TBD's. I had not a cold in the years I had a high spirochete load.

Since now I believe my chete load is considerably downsized I was wondering.

However...I don't care to rock the boat at this juncture.

It could be one of those....it's up to you things. However I won't take one this year nor

the pneumonia shot either. Even though I did have my first cold(I think) this past summer.

Get one and see how it goes....! OR NOT!

In any case...it did'nt kill me!

I think once it almost did but the Phleb insisted I go to the hospital and pulled my IV

of ceftriaxone and then they gave me LEVAQUIN in the hospital...funny thing is the ducks could

never quite decide if what I had was Pneumonia or a weird case of Bronchitis!

Go figure, they of course knew nothing of a possible spirochete involvement!....

And even if they did...they would have Poo POOED IT!

Good luck....let us know how you feel...if you do it!

Again, MHO....NOT ME BROTHER!

Got too many buggies runnin around in me now!

Some flu shots contain mercury. The last thing anyone with Lyme needs is more mercury. SKIP the flu shot.

If you are worried about catching the flu take Host Defense by New Chapter. You can find it online for reasonable prices and it does help boost the immune system.

My neighbor is a RN who works NICU at a nearby hospital.

She is currently treating Lyme and bartonella.

Due to her job hazards (very sick children and children with flu),

Our LLMD rec'd she get the shot.

He recommended that I not get the shot.

I don't think I would volunteer for it anyways.

Hugs,

Geneal

I agree with Angelica.

Most influenza vaccines contain the toxic heavy metal Mercury in them. Via the preservative Thimerosal.

The preservative Thimerosal, is 50% Mercury, by weight.

So, if you are going to get a flu shot then you may want to make sure it doesn't contain the preservative Thimerosal.

One of the members of our lyme group went for a flu shot several years ago. After getting the shot, she went to bed and stayed there for several years.

I wouldn't recommend it.

I've had one every year for at least ten years and ahve had no problems, or flu.

No no no! The adult form has mercury. Also, one possible 'side effect' is Guillian Barr Syndrome, I worked with someone who had had that and had been wheelchair bound for months. She finally was able to walk with help of alternative medicine whereas her MD's told her she'd never walk again.

I will never get another vaccination again, in my opinion they can be deadly, I never vaccinated my children and in hindsight now, they may have gotten Lyme from me, so I'm glad we didn't give them any.

Please take care!

Again thanks SO much everyone for their experiences and shared information.

I finally decided, since there wasn't a consensus opinion on the topic, to e-mail my llmd, Dr. L. in Destin, FL

(whom I've decided to keep even though a new one was an option, but the one now is so knowledgeable, accessible and responsive by e-mail, etc. anytime, it's not worth the change, and he has really helped me)

His response(in all CAPS), which follows my question, is below...

Dr. L, It is time for the flu and/or pneumonia shot/s, but with the lyme and babesia and the low-grade fever do I need to get either of the shots this year, or would it be better not to get either of them? My primary doc has no clue if I should or not.

GOOD MORNING, JIM

SINCE YOU WILL BE ON ANTIBIOTICS, AND MOST LIKELY THE SILVER FOR SOME TIME PERIOD, I WOULD NOT GET THE FLU SHOT, DUE TO THE IMPACT IT WILL HAVE ON THE IMMUNE SYSTEM, WHICH IS OVER WORKED AT THIS POINT.

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE MAKING PROGRESS, EVEN THOUGH IT IS SLOW, THANKS, JLL(Doc's name edited by me, pm me if in/near N.W. FL and need a great llmd)

BETTER HEALTH THRU TEAMWORK

No flu shots for me. They give me the flu.

Don't take the flu shot. It put into a big relapse.

I take Epicor, one a day to prevent the flu.
