I started making shakes/smoothies with vegetable ingredients and not so much fruit ingredients. I also used a lot of almond milk and other low-carb 'milks'.

The forum at the www.wholeapproach.com website has a lot of low-carb shake/smoothie suggestions that are really good.

The original poster was probably asking about whey for a different reason than you're thinking of (ie not as a meal replacement).

There's a protocol for helping the body produce more glutathione, which involves a product called undenatured whey. Some LLMD's have some patients taking it in addition to other liver/glutathione production support.

I second the almond milk idea. There are actually brands of almond milk now that come unsweetened but flavored with vanilla. I personally don't do well with chocolate, but they come in unsweetened chocolate flavors as well.

SkyLord, for those of us with digestive issues that cannot consume animal protein or animal bi products, do you believe that amino acid supplements (along with rice and beans) are enough to support the body and provide what the body needs?

I mix it with low fat coconut milk or Bio-K yogurt(a really good probiotic)

Thank you for all your thoughts!

It's true that I am taking whey for liver support.

Maria, which is your favorite smoothie?

Just a little thought......

Please be careful not to overdo it with protein supplements. EXCESS protein intake can actually damage kidneys and therefore it's a good idea not to get excessive with it.

Supplementing may be good, but this is definitely an area where mindful moderation may be beneficial.

Make sure to drink plenty of water to flush the kidneys while supplementing.

You can add Cocoa powder, vanilla & stevia.

Berries are also relatively low carb, perhaps a few strawberries & some vanilla?

I didn't really pursue the 'whey' line of reasoning very far- I haven't read all that much about it. My LLMD suggested I start using it a while back while I was having a hard time with chelation (I have high mercury) because various things pointed to my body having problems with glutathione production. He's had me on whey and B12 injections for the same reasons.

ANyway, here's some of the info I read- it's a bit confusing and I think there are better web pages out there. I wasnt' using the Immunocal product they're talking about, by the way:
