My vertigo is back. Its awful!! The last few weeks my dr has had me taking flexeril and vicodin at bedtime. Could the combination of these drugs be causing some of the vertigo again?? Im scared.

I have a call into my LLMD. Don't know what he'll say. Im not on any antibiotics or herbs-just energy treatments. I work full time too and I need to be able to function.

I hate this.

Hi Nal,

Could be the meds. You might try to find an MD who has experience with the Epley (sp?) technique. They are usually ENT. This can re-position the crystals in your ear and end the vertigo.

You are right, vertigo is the pits!

Depending on the type of vertigo, the Epley maneuver can actually fix it - if it is BPV, Benign Positional Vertigo. While it won't work on all types of vertigo, getting a good evaluation is a good idea.

WHY is this happening? Lyme is a frequent cause of vertigo but certainly not the only cause.

Yes, vicodin causes vertigo like crazy for me. Some doctors say it calms down the inner ear but, for some people, it increases the problem. Part of that is that anyone with an inner ear disorder should never take muscle relaxants as it makes it harder for the inner ear to maintain balance if the muscles are out to lunch.

Also, certain drugs and over the counter products can make it worse.

Minocycline or zithromax can cause vertigo for some people.

Ginger can help. B-6, too.

Ive been taking vicodin for a long time. Just recently increased the dose. Been on flexeril for about 2 months. I wonder if the drugs building up in my system have finally sparked the vertigo?

Resting with your head at a 30 degree angle (higher than your feet) is the best position for the inner ear.

You may have some ginger powder in your kitchen herb cabinet. You can mix a little with water and see if that helps in the time being. Magnesium can help, too. With B-6 if you have it on hand.

I'm also thinking that if this came on suddenly - and you've taken the meds before - that you might be lucky and have the BPV for which the Epley maneuver might be the key.

Liver support might help if the levels of the meds have built up but, still, sometimes meds that used to work for us can flip-flop.

And, weather changes can affect vertigo, too. Have you had a weather front moving through or a sharp drop or rise in temp?

Good luck. Hope you find some relief.

If drugs are building up in your system, you might want to consider a warm clear water enema or colonic.

You may need to get rid of toxins/die off that are accumulating. This could be causing your vertigo.

Whenever I experience this, Clearing the g i track always helps me. Enemas are an old remedy for migrains as well.

Not meant to be medical advice. Always check with your physician.

I too have been having horrid vertigo. I don't have solutions but thought I would come here and read what kind of advice YOU were given.

Mine is not related to the drugs in question since I don't take vicodin or Flexeril and just assumed this was from the lyme.

But you have gotten some great advice here. Something I did try out of desperation was taking Bonine (a motion sickness over the counter med).

Also was drinking lots of ginger tea for the nausea it was creating.

I do hope you find something that works since it's a horrid feeling.

Cathy,

You said you tried Bonine - but how did that work for you?

-

Something else I forgot - I take this when I fly and ginger might not be enough for a bouncy plane (and note that ginger can be a bit stimulating) . . .

You can take this anytime - not just for flying.

Boiron homeopathics:

Tabacum 30 c and Cocculus Indicus 6 c - separately or together

(3 pellets under tongue - no caffeine, chocolate or mint that day as that can negate the effects)

No kidding, I've been ready to loose my lunch and, in less than a minute, these homeopathics can stop that action.

I tested positive for over 800 toxins in my system today. They did do an energy treatment for them. Im still incredibly dizzy tonight though.

Nal I used to get vertigo from mold. Then I would start to get it more and more often.

Now its chronic. Everyday 24/7. I really feel for you.

Im thinking of going to a clinic in New York that specializes in vertigo. Its such a depressing symptom.

I get vertigo from time to time! I think it is for me from a lot of die off or neurological issues!!

I take a medication called antivert and it does the trick! I would not be caught with out it! It is a savior for me!

Best of Luck!
