No they do not. I haven't had one, but know ppl that have. It does not hurt to have it put in according to others.

Nope. They numb the area and stick the line in. Pretty painless... I've had 5.

Had it done in hospital. AP is correct. They numbed my arm...used a moveable (over table) X-ray like machine and put line in.

My arm was sore afterwards-not from the line but the angle my arm was in when it was put in.

Hey, I didn't get anything to numb the site!! Anyway, it wasn't a big deal....sounds/looks scarier than it is.

just local to the area where they insert the line. is not considered surj. since is periherally inserted (put in above elbow area)

if you have any discomfort or pain make sure to tell the person doing the procedure,

they should verify placement with an xray after you are done

i have had this done, luckily i was still inthe hsop. when done and was given good dose of "happy juice" before they sent me to the cancer unit to have the line insereted (best folks for the job at t hat hosp.)

i week later i had problems with my arm swelling and severe pain, line would not flush. had to have picc pulled -- that was nasty. my veins had swollen around the line and were spasming.

just make sure to watch for any complications and tell your doc if anything that does not feel or seem right to you
