Hi all - I just received an email tonight from HealthFreedomUSA.org about an apparent attempt by the FDA to ban interstate shipment of nutrients and supplements if there have been any studies on them. Yeah, right.

Evidently the DSHEA (Dietary Supplements and Health Education Act of 1994) protects supplements and this attempt is illegal.

Even still, we are being asked to sign the petition and make a comment against this attempted draft regulation against nutrients and supplements access.

Please go see the post in Activism and click on the url listed there.

I am making this post here since nutrients and supplements are essential to our ongoing medical treatment.

Thx for your attention. - Robin

Well, why would anyone want to take something that they have no idea what is in it?

Seems to me that most herbs and possibly vitamins are out of China. Have any of you read or heard what's been going on?

If your eating and drinking right, then you don't need to take what your body is already ingesting. Save your money and just eat right! [Smile]

My LLMD warns to take only vitamins and supplements provided by a reputable supplier with full disclosure of it's ingredients. He says some shipped from China (in particular) have had metals like nickle in them. Not only do you not want to consume metals - some people are very allergic to them - especially nickle.
Not to say this has anything to do with the FDA's ban - I am just reminded to pass along a little warning. [Smile]

Lymeloco: I wish it was that easy. Most people with Lyme need to supplement with vitamins because we do not absorb and assimilate properly and adequately vitamins found in food.

Lymeloco - my understanding is that the FDA wants to inhibit supplements from being sent across state lines in this country! Many of us order our supplements from other states. We need to be able to continue to have the freedom to do so.

What the FDA is trying to do right now is illegal under the Dietary Supplements Health Education Act of 1994 and I hope this is not a serious threat. But I posted here so others could take a look-see and sign the petition against it if so desired.

And, due to being ill, lots of us need supplement help.

Make no mistake about it, the FDA is protecting the interests of Big Pharma.

Lymeloco is right that we need to be eating the healthiest diet we can. We need to make every bite count for us.

Peedie is also right that our sick bodies are not assimilating the nutrients. That is part of our sickness. It is no accident that 80% of our immune system resides in our gut.

We aren't processing and absorbing the nutrients and the bugs are. So we need supplementation to build our immune system and bodies back up to fight the disease.

Most MDs trained in nutrition are only recommending pharmacutical grade supplements. They may cost extra up front but they pack the greatest punch and will get you well quicker.

I speak from experience. I was housebound and had to quit my job just 5 mths after being diagnosed. It only took 6 mths of working with a CAM trained doctor to get me back up and functioning. It was steady gradual improvement.

Diet, detox and a small amt of abx. I have been fully functional for 2 yrs now and mostly painfree for 1 yr.

I still test positive for some bugs so the work is still in progress, but I am living a normal life.

Take the FDA with a BIG grain of salt.

I just got this email again tonight asking us to protest any illegal FDA restriction of mailing supplements across statelines, with a November comment deadline.

Please go look at the post I made on it in Activism, and sign the petition if you're so inclined.

I'm curious to know what you all think about this. I'm surprised we haven't heard more about it. I think I'm going to call my national reps tomorrow and see what they know.

Ok, I checked around today. The FDA is attempting to draft a regulation banning interstate mailing of supplements. This is illegal under the DSHEA (Dietary Supplements Health education Act of 1994).

If we want, we can sign the petition against it and make comments through November 25. The link is http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/568/campaign/jsp?campaign_KEY=26269

The bigger issue is this: we will need to be working to fight off Codex in 2009. That's an international agreement to ban supplements. Yep, you read that right...

Everyone can go to www.healthfreedomusa.org. and click on Take Action and sign up on their mailing list for email alerts.

There is a lot of info on the site we can read through and we can also watch videos.

If we want to be able to continue having access to supplements, I think this is where the action is going to be in the coming year.
