How long do you wait - off Abx - for the cysts to break out so you can "clobber them" with Abx again?

I think it is nearly impossible to know...it could be different for everyone.

Pam Weintraub discusses her and Dr. B's experience with this in her great book, Cure Unknown. Seems that they both went through a couple of cycles of stopping abx and then restarting, and both felt cured after that.

Great question.

My theory is to treat until you feel noticeably better (not necessarily asymptomatic as that may be aiming too high in the first cycle).

Then stop all abx or herbs or whatever until you have a full blown relapse or backslide.

Then go full dose until you again start to improve, at which point you again get off meds and wait for another backslide. And so on...

My analogy is a boxing match. When your opponent is curled up he is impervious to more blows. Let him uncoil and come at you in a progressively weaker/scattered state each round and eventually you can finish him off.

To me, going high dose non-stop for years makes no sense given the Lyme bacteria's ability to curl up into a cyst.

Thanks - I guess I'll wait for the full blown relapse. Hate to do this over the holidays - but can't make a new appt. until my daughter clears her new school/work schedule. (We see the LLMD together)
So I'm completely out of Amoxy. Decided I'm feeling pretty good lately - might as well give this a try. I have Doxy and Biaxin stashed away. Which would be best to use when I begin to relapse?

i had to work during tx so when i got to that part i took abx fri, sat, sun-knowing i would feel bad by the end of the day fri thru mon

then i stayed off tues, wed, thurs (and was able to work ok)

i did that almost a whole year and when i stopped a lot of symptoms were gone-esp fatigue and foot pain that have never come back

odd symptoms that come and go went away the next year while i was detoxing

i never got rid of joint pain but it has turned into osteo arthritis so i am tx it that way

Are you treating yourself? I think you need to be under an LLMD's care.

please note I'm just stating my personal theories and ideas.

I'm not suggesting that you actually try what I said without clearing it with your doc.

My lyme doc had me stop all antibiotics for 1 week. Then, started me up on them again--amoxicillin and flagyl. This was the "ambush."

The flagyl was to kill the cyst form. The amoxi would kill the regular form. Took flagyl 250 mg three times per day.

It worked for me. I stopped treatment 3 1/2 years ago and am symptom-free.

Thanks all

cindy - yes I am in treatment with a LLMD. Just got off my 1x/monthly schedule and decided to get "creative" until I see him next month.

I know he is okay with going off abx for a short break, my daughter is on a break while she undergoes tests and gets her gut in order.

yani - I like the boxing analogy. Don't worry - I wouldn't do anything different from what he has tx'd before.

TF - So good to hear from someone who has recovered!!! Thanks - I do think it is important to treat the cyst form in order to get completely well.

Thanks all
