I started flagyl pulsing 3 weeks ago (pulse for 10 days). During that time, I developed a cold or something. IT got worse, then I began taking pennicillin v-k oral tabs (alternate betw that and flagl). I began feeling better for a few days, then my chest got worse. Make a long story short, all tests came back negative. I have clear mucus , skipped heart beat, hurts when I take deep breath, can't excercise right now....EEg came back normal...no pnemonia...no strep..prefect blood work...
So, I just talked to my llmd, and he says I should try an inhaler, he does not think I have a bacteria infection ...I recall a few years back(before diagnosed with lyme) I use to have this sharp knife pain in my chest, lasting only short periods...now it is flaring up...Can this be lyme..should I go to a heart/lung quack..How long should I give this before worrying...LLMD said try the inhaler before going back on flagyl. I see him in 3 weeks. what do you guys think?

I have had chest pains on and off for 3-4 years now. I have been in and out of the ER and I have had just about every test there can be done. I have had a stress echo, halter monitor, nuclear stress test, Cardiac CT scan, etc. After they ruled out the heart they started on the respiratory tests and after all of those came back negative they basically have given up and believe I am making up the pains.

My very first symptom was chest pain. It wasn't really very bad at first but I knew it wasn't "normal" so I just innocently asked for an appointment to have it checked out when convenient.

I ended up at the doctor within an hour and then admitted to the hospital. Over the month, it did get more and more severe and they ended up running every heart test out there, all the way to the heart catherization.

Once they found out my heart was fine, they chalked it up to anxiety.

From there, the pain spread and the rest is history.

So yes, I would say that chest pain CAN be a symptom, but it's also one of those things that you don't want to mess with and ignore by assuming everything is lyme.

I would still get it checked out, but if your heart comes up clean, I would follow through with lyme and co treatment. Good luck.

I have had chest pain as well and have been worked up for it. Do you know about Lyme carditis? Not that you have it, but it definitely can effect the heart. I recently read that chest pain can be a sign of a bartonella co infection which I am checking into. Email if you want more info.
Good luck. It's pretty common

Yes, I'm pretty sure chest pain comes with Lyme for some people.

That's been one of my main complaints, along with shortness of breath and vision problems.

I would keep an eye on it, and do whatever you can to rule out heart issues and respiratory problems--but it looks like you're doing that.

Hang in there! [Smile]

I saw a well respected heart quack and he walked in my room and walked right out, looked at my chart again and when he came back in he told me he expected that I would be an overweight couch potato. My heart was fine by my stress echo suggested the fitness level of someone other than the 145 pound yoga teacher in front of him.

Nothing else was "wrong" though. He told me I probably had inflammation.

I get chest pains in addition to tachycardia.

I have had 2 full cardiac workups in the past 6 months and they cannot find a thing.

I will get left sided chest pain around my heart. Sometimes this feels like a dull ache or cramp and other times it feels like a sharp knife or a lightning bolt to my heart. I really hate this symptom.

Other times it will hurt when I cough or take a deep breath in.

For me, I feel this is related to Lyme and Babesia.

As the others have said, please get checked out. If everything comes back normal, you will know it is Lyme related.

There are many nerves in the chest called Thoracic Nerves and Lyme spirochetes may have found there way into these nerves. Or maybe the spirochetes, (exacerbated by die-off) are giving off toxins in close proximity.

It could be unrelated but your heart skipping also fits into thoracic nerve involvement . Lyme is notorious for affecting nerves which is responsible for many neuro symptoms.

Diagrams of Thoracic Nerves

Description of Thoracic Nerves

Also, when the spirochetes are dying off, like any organism facing death, they run. When I am herxing really bad I get mini bulls eye rashes and tiny red specks all over my skin. This could be the reason for your throat irritation.

Is the throat pain on the surface of the throat or does it feel deeper? If its surface it might be the spirochetes running. If deeper then it might also be nerve involvement.

This is all just brainstorming based on information I've gathered in my own quest to find answers. I am not a doctor and have only begun to understand the complex network of nerves in human anatomy.

I really hope things get better for you soon. I experienced similar symptoms at the height of my illness. It was very frightening not knowing what was going on in my body. Good luck.

I get a very painful stabbing directly in the middle of my chest when I am having a bad herx. My LLMD told me it was directly related to lymes. I did have a cardiac workup just to be sure which was neg.

Thanks guys. I went to the heart doc, he thinks I am nuts cause everything is normal. He wants to do an echo cardiogram and put a halter for 24 hours. I really now think all of this islyme.

I feel for you. I went through all that and it's like chasing phantoms. No one knows what the hell is going on...
