What causes one to feel a tightness in the throat? It's sort of feels like it's closing up, but obviously it is not. This is a symptom I experienced from the very beginning of my illness 3 years ago.

Every time I start a new antibiotic it seems to reaccur. I think it is either a herxheimer reaction or anxiety. The reason I don't lean toward a reaction to the med is that this happened even when I was not on meds. Any suggestions?

Hmmm. I have no clue, but I've had this too. Hopefully others will be along with more info later...

I really have no clue what causes this symptom. I get it too from time to time and have gotten it since getting sick.

Sometimes when i herx i get this symptom too. I think it may be neurological.

Ive wondered the same thing.

What you describe has been my worse and most lasting symptom. My comes along with a cough, a feeling like I burnt my mouth with pizza. It feels asthmatic at times. Pretty sure mine is from the Babs. I have Lyme also. I'm being treated now after being well for 4 years and that was the first symptom to come back and it is worse on the abx. 10 years ago the only thing that got rid of it was homeopathic and an alternative care provider that did electrodermal testing. I have moved since then ... it's hard to get to her and no insurance coverage and expensive. I am starting with the lyme specialist now and see what happens. God Bless Theresa

Theresa I would also describe it sometimes with an asthmatic feel to it. I even got an inhaler(non steroid) from my LLMD. But that is not what it is.

I don't have a burnt feeling with it. It is just like my throat feels very very tight and could almost close up. I actually think it is Lyme related for me because it seem like a neurological symptom. Most of my symptoms right now are neuro.

Yes mine has been much improved, but I had it for YEARS. Since I was having panic attacks (due to undiagnosed Lyme), I just told myself it was from the panic. Anxiety has improved immensely with improved diet and fresh garlic, but I still get the throat closing feeling from time to time.

I had it last week for about 6 hours, no idea why, but I'd forgotten how ANNOYING that feeling is!!!

My mom, who had panic and weird symptoms for 10 years (probably unidagnosed Lyme) had the feeling like her throat was closing, she would pull on her neck to make it feel easier to breathe.

So sorry you have this too, obviously you aren't alone with this one!!

Take care,
Ocean

Here's another one...i get that feeling of tightness in the throat, it feels like its closing up.

I didn't have it for about 2-3 months and now its back.

It's much worse when I drink green tea. This really upsets me because I love it.

Sorry to hear about that, hope it gets better soon!

For me, the asthma and breathing problems were caused mostly by babesia, and possibly also lyme. I had had asthma for years, until babesia treatment magically cleared up my breathing problems.

For symptomatic relief, sugar-free menthol cough drops or breathe-easy herbal tea worked well for me.
