Just diagnosed with Lyme by LLMD in Wellesley, MA after feeling sick since October and exhausting every specialist in RI. Lyme is mimicing ALS and MD feels that aggressive treatment with IV antibiotics is essential. I am now left with the task of finding an IV homecare agency, finding a place to have a PICC line inserted, getting insurance to cover it all and try to get my MD to take me out of work for a short time so I can collect TDI. All while taking care of 2 small children. I am overwhelmed! Anyone in RI that can offer any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million!

Worse case is you could ask to start out with oral abx. That way u could some what take care of your children

your doc prescribing IV antibiotics should set you up for the PICC line, can be done at hospital in outpatient
doc should also set up the IV through home health, let them know if you have a preference of companies.
as for the insurence-- depends on your carrier and policy. usually this is done by md office submits "pre-auth" to ins. and they approve or deny, if deny the doc goes at it again with them.

I am in RI and went through this in 2008 (except the TDI).
My PICC line was put in by RI Vascular Institute in Providence. My PICC was managed and drug delivered by Clinical IV Network in Pawtucket. Hope this helps.

Also, Kent County hospital is great for putting in PICCs - they were wonderful with me!
My home health care was - i can';t remember name but right next to Salvation Army on Eddy Street near Woman and INfants - If I can find the paperwork I will let you know.
But normally the doc arranges this -
Insurance should cover it all without question.

Since you are out of state from the doc, she should give you written prescriptions. I just went through this with same doc. Was able to call local hospitals, and get PICC with the written script. They did call her for whatever they needed. Same deal with homecare company.
