since I have had my piccline in it has been uncomfortable. they pulled it back a little and that helpped somewhat. I still have discomfort there. Is this normal? my line sits right above the heart. can it be pulled back further? the doc that I have seems to think I shouln't feel anything. What kind of activity or exercise can you do w/a picc? thankyou

Any shortness of breath or pain along where the PICC runs?

I had this and turned out I had a blood clot. Please measure your arm two inches above the PICC site and make sure it isn't larger than the other arm.

You can't lift more than ten pounds with the arm that has the PICC in it.

I didn't have discomfort. I was told to baby the arm...told not to vaccumm the house. Hired a cleaner.

Hope you find a solution.

I had the same thing happen to me my last picc line. The doc put it in too far and it was resting on a valve or something and it caused me to have discomfort and shortness of breath.

They tried pulling it back some but it was only minimal relief. They had to just replace the picc and insert a new one and leave it short of my heart.

If its bothering you i would ask to get it replaced or looked at.

Hope thinsg works out.

Joe

Come and join us on www.lymefriends.com. It is a great social networking site for Lymies, lots of friends from here and very supportive.

We have a group there called "IV Buddies." It might be helpful to you.

I had a similar thing happen with my first picc line. I actually got mechanical phlebitis, which is irritation of the vessel lining. When was the line inserted? I noticed that it takes about a week and a half for the pain to go away-at least for me- and for the line to become "silent." Also, it could be too close to your valve, as mentioned earlier. Have they done a chest X-ray to see where the end is? It it is right up against the wall, it can cause iirritation, too.

Mtgirl, did they pull your PICC out due to the phlebitis?
