ICK. I have a sore on my tongue. It's white and right in the middle and about the size of a pimple. Feels like a sore throat when I swallow and looks the same after brushing.

The rest of my mouth looks OK. I don't think I have thrush. I eat probiotics like candy and don't seem to have yeast issues elsewhere...

I've been out of town and my doc's office is closed today. Any ideas??

This is gross.

I brush, floss, waterpic, mouthwash....

What is this?

I've also been having a hellish time with tooth pain and hot flashes around the clock. I need a root canal and presume this is part of the problem. I'm so loaded up with abx, it's complicating/masking the tooth issue.

Anyone? Anyone?

Thanks for your help.

I have had the same things over and over and I actually have one right now.

I was told by my doctor that it is an ulcer and it can be caused by too much artifical sweetners or a toothpaste or mouthwash or anything really.

Did you change anything recently, toothpaste, etc? Have you been eating alot of artifical sweetners? These could be the causes.

I AM NOT A DOCTOR MAKE SURE TO CHECK WITH YOURS. Just been there.

Hi Rambler,

Sounds very unpleasant [Frown]

Try applying some probiotics directly on the sore spot. Open a capsule and dump it on. Let it stay on there as long as you can, until it just dissolves.

Another idea is to get one of those foaming peroxide oral cleansers. I think it's called Glyoxide. Comes in a little squeeze bottle from the grocery or drug store, by the toothpaste.

That combination may help speed healing and keep it from coming back. Hope so.

About the root canal, you may want to rethink that. At least do some reading about it before you take the plunge so you know what the risks are.

Many people have had their health decline after getting a root canal. The tooth is dead and it becomes a storehouse of bacteria. I read that root canal bacteria consist of strep, staph, and spirochetes.

There is reportedly no such thing as a safe root canal--might be best to sacrifice the tooth and have it extracted to avoid more problems down the road.

I know I will end up having my root canal tooth extracted, sooner or later.

Take care and feel better fast.

Aphthous ulcer - details - and photos

-=============

For four straight years I had a mouth on fire - and with many Aphthous ulcer. Allicin helped at one point but I had to stop due to how it raised tinnitus for me (most patients do not get this effect, though).

Several months ago, after starting on andrographis, within one week, my mouth markedly improved. Within two, nearly all better. And it's stayed that way.

I've taken a week off here or there and the mouth is still good. Amazing stuff. But, as the allicin was a bit too speedy for my system, andrographis is very sedating for most. So, be aware.

After the first week or two that gets a bit better - and it is very calming to the central nervous system so that helps me in many ways.

Andrographis can also cause some stomach upset, so it's best to take it with food at first.

The probiotics in the mouth - and a spilanthes mouth rinse helped, but it was not until andrographis that I found total relief. Still this is a great mouth rinse:

LICORICE ROOT (Glycyrrhiza glabra)

WHAT IT DOES: Licorice root is sweet in taste and cooling in action. It detoxifies poisons from the blood and liver, and reduces general inflammation and pain.

It moistens and heals the lungs and digestive tract.

If you have high blood pressure, it'd be best to have the DGL kind of licorice:

Malarone (at 6 a day) caused mouth sores for me.

What meds are you taking now?

Hugs,

Thank you for the replies!!!

I AM using a mouthwash with artificial sweeteners.
I swore I read that label.... EW! I don't DO artificial sweeteners.

I see my doc today.
Will let you know what the verdict is...

God help me with this tooth pain, though....

Yeah, most mouthwashes are full of all sorts of artificial ingredients.

I hope you find relief after tossing yours out. Good detective work on that.

----------

In addition to whatever anti-infective agent you take, If you chew an andrographis tablet and keep that by your tooth, that might help. It has some remarkable qualities for dental care.

It is a very bitter herb, so this may not taste great but I think you might have a chance with it.
