Well, I seem to have a pattern. Don't know if it's a detox issue, a herx issue, a drug intoleranc issue or what.
With alot of the the heavy-hitting abx I can only tolerate them for approximately 4 monthsat a time. Then I get extreme ear-ringing and a weird sort of depression. I push as far as I can until it become unbearable. Then I have to stop.
The depression is an out-of-your-head kind where you cannot control the flooding of your thoughts and it is hard to listen to others because your thoughts are "too loud." similarly, I get very sound sensitive.
As of yet, I have not found any antidepressants that are helpful in getting me beyond this point. And my ear clogginess and ringing are worse. I can deal with body pain, but I can't work through the ear stuff/depression.
Even Zhang's herbs are becoming problematic. I think Bartonella is really a big problem, but I can't get near enough to a good abx regimen to even get near it.
The longest I was able to stay on an abx was with high-dose Amox for 10 months. Then the pattern began again.
Anyone ever experience this before? Any suggestion on what to do?

I understand what your saying Wiser, but unfortunately dont have any good answers. I used to be able to stay on abx for at least a couple months. Now it seems after a couple weeks I start having a hard time tolerating them.
Anyone else with any suggestions?

Wise, I'm in a similar situation right now. I just ended 2 months of Mepron and I'm finishing the last week of a 16 week course of Rocephin.
This has been the WORST week of my treatment.
I was hoping to have something to look forward to. Not only are my emotions a wild and woolly ride, but I'm having the worst herx stuff yet!
Antidepressants seem to be making me more agitated. My doc gave me a script for ativan...
I'm having more nerve pain than at any point since I've been in treatment. I have numbness and tingling under my fingernails! Whatever!!!!
My feet are really hurting. The bottoms, the sides, achilles tendon, toes... OW. Is this Babs?

I also was my worst after 16 week course of Rocephin. Severe body aches and mental meltdown. My LLMD decided to take me off it for a break and move onto orals.
The feet hurting sounds like Bartonella, which also bothers me pretty consistently.
I have ridden through a lot of bad herxes, but the never-ending ones make me wonder how much is safe to tolerate. I know some folks say get through the fire; other folks say take a break and don't overtax your body.

Sounds like you are toxic. I get the sound sensitivity and depression the more toxic I get. Also, the never-ending herx.
IM Ceftriaxone really brought on the depression for me. I assume it was hitting the brain.
Drainage remedies helped me a lot. I used Pekana but there are other brands. There is a product called the Pekana detox pack but they make other remedies for drainage as well. They made me sicker at first but really helped a lot after that.
I have the HLA dreaded genotype and take Actos (downregulates cytokines and acts as a gene therapy according to Dr. S - read his book "The Mold Warriors"). Cholestyramine is used to bind toxins. Both are prescription and can be hard to take for lyme patients.
Also found that I have a lot of genetic methylation mutations. This affects glutathione which affects our ability to detox.
All in all, I would say detox will help you stay on abx. I NEVER thought I would be able to stay on the amount of abx I've taken because they have always made me very sick. At one point as a child (I was already infected), they were giving me abx because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me and I had seizures and all kinds of horrible symptoms. They thought I was allergic to abx. Tests show I'm not. I'm certain it was a detox reaction.
Also consider that some LLMD's state that when borrelia dies, heavy metals are released. You need something on board to bind them and pull them out. I personally believe this is true. It has certainly been helpful to me to keep an eye on heavy metal detox during treatment.
You will likely get benefit from fully exploring the detox issues that have been talked about at lymenet. Lots of posts at lymenet if you do a search for various detox issues.
