I don't know if this is common but the glands on either side of my neck below the jawbone feel swollen and it hurts to swallow. No, I'm not getting a virus nor is it strep, already spoke to my PCP. It came on after taking today's dose of abx.
Anyone else get swollen glands with antibiotics? Good sign/bad sign? Feeling crappy!!

just talked to LLMD about this, bart related. look up the bart symptoms, is big one
also, can be from inflammation internally as immune response, fighting back...hope that helps.
glad u got strep, etc ruled out, that sounds like the nodes that are the "mumps" glands

That is EXACTLY what I get lately too! I truly believe my former LLMD mis-diagnosed Babesia and I have Bartonella. I do not have night sweats, never ever had a fever, etc.

The lymph nodes filter waste out of the body. When the nodes swell, it reflects an increase in waste, and in our case, I believe the waste is die off of bugs (Bb, babesia, Bart, etc.) in our brain and the rest of the head that are draining out of the area, and eventually out of the body.

(As above) That's Quite normal IF you've not been on abx long (You gave No indication where you are in treatment) as your lymph system is busy taking away the die-off. It's POSSIBLE it's an allergic reaction IF you JUST STARTED a particular antibiotic. Finally, it could be unrelated to your Lyme & abx and signifies a seperate temporary infection, though this is the Least likely of the 3.

there is a lot of herbal stuff for this. Buhner protocol uses a tincture of 'red root' herb, which can help with clearing out dead bacterial from the lymph nodes.

Thanks you all for your replies. Seek, me neither. I never get night sweats but only during the day and terrible shakiness as well.
I've just re-started clarithromycin (biaxin -would the brand-name be different than generic?) and my lymph nodes feel so rotten.
I'm tempted to go to a walk-in clinic but then again they give you funny looks. My doc's office re-opens Mon. Pharmacist didn't think it sounded like an allergic reaction but you never know.
MariaA - thanks for that info - I'm hopefully seeing an ND (not LLND) who might be able to help me detox and will keep your info in mind.
In the meantime I'm miserable, feel like giving up and have just started tx. What a bummer.

Maria or anyone else - How did you get on the Buhner protocol? Self treated? Are there docs that specialize in this?
I know someone who sees a doc who does not put patients on abx right away but focuses on strengthening the immune system, etc. then gradually adds the abx.

I have been taking an array of antibiotics lately and my neck glands are contantly swollen and miserable. Some days they are more so than others.
I think for me it is either 1.) bartonella, because my shins and bottom of my feet hurt also, or 2.) an immune response.
Doesn't sound like an allergic reaction to me.

YES!! my legs esp the bottom of my feet kill me too! makes me wonder if i'm (rather my doc) is treating the wrong infection??

I have been on Flagyl with zith and diflucan, then just zith alone, then biaxin, then Malarone, then took a break for a couple of months.
Now I am on Minocycline. I had to take zith, then flagyl for some other issues, so I am wondering if all of those 3 caused a bart herx.
I have heard wonderful things about Minocycline so I am going to hang in there and see what happens. I believe that Mino can also attack Bart. Some studies are even being done on Mino having an effect on Babesia as well.

Glad you're persevering with the mino, sounds like it might lead you to some good improvements overall!
I did doxy and though it was extremely rough I can say that it sort of "jump started" my immune system. You've been on quite the treatment, you are right, the combo of 3 drugs might have made you herx like mad.
Hadn't had swollen glands in a long time...until now. Do you think it might coincide with spring-time allergens? Do yours?
