last nite i saw smething black on my tummy..well it was 3/4 in and 11/4 out...i tried to get whatever it was out but i couldnt coz i couldnt fin the tweeeezers ( tried with my nails) then when i found the twweezers i still couldnt get it.it has somehow got embedded with the skin.
so i went to the er today and the er doc there must have beeen a reeaal quack..he looked at it no more than like ten seconds...maybe 5 and said u got it out..
.i said well what that black spot there then..o thats a scab,,, ( no way im thinking..) then i said u have to take it out its still in there and he said
YOU R NOT SUPPOSED TO TAKE THEM OUT IF THEY ARE IN THERE LIKE THAT.
..IS THAT A CROCK OR WHAT?HE ACKOWLEDED AT LEAST IT WAS A TICK..
.AND GAVE ME SOME TX FOR IT...BUT ISNT THAT AGAINST THE LAW WHAT HE DID OR MALPRACTICE TO NOT TAKE THAT TIC OUT??

Did he remove it ? I don't see that he did.
Do you have a magnifying glass ? I would go to another doctor. If that is a tick, and embedded, yes, it needs to be removed. But, it's probably better that that doctor did not do it as he may have done in incorrectly.
If you can get a magnifying glass and take a closer look, and if is a tick, before another doctor starts to remove, be sure what method he will use.

You said he gave you Tx. Do you mean doxycyline ?

WHAT KIND OF TICK?? DID HE SAY/KNOW? "...u got it out."? It's hard to understand if the ER Doc got it out properly, or YOU got it out.
A black spot usually means the head might still be in there. It won't heal quickly (properly) w/o getting that out, BUT there's little danger of any Lyme bacteria present increasing in # as they come from the tick's gut.
An upsate N.Y. doc, even an ER intern, finding an IMBEDDED DEER TICK on you & taking it out & giving you only 1 dose of doxy is UNEXCUSEABLE. You need to be on 4 weeks of abx, typ 100 doxy b.i.d. or 500mg amoxy t.i.d. for a "high risk bite".
Have an MD, RN or vet get that head out. Your PCP is the 1st choice as he/she can write a 'script'.

Do not try to mess with you yourself it it is embeded. You need it to be cut out at this point. That can be done in an office visit.
Try to take a photo or two - with good clarity - before it is removed.

One pill will do nothing!!! You could have additional coinfections with this bite.

nomolyme- I assume it's all out now & healing? If it WAS a smaller black or black/red tick, you NEED 4 weeks of doxy. Better yet, 6. Even if you were diagnosed & treated in 2001, you can get Lyme all over again, not to mention the possibility of co-infections.
ER docs are often worthless. Go see your regular doc & explain how it was imbedded for a couple days. Get some meds. Period.

no the er doc was an idiot.
..he dint even try to take it out..he said i took it out the nite b4 but i dint!!!!
then he said that i should leave it in coz thats what they ( i guess by they he means the medical community) are doing now!! what a jerk i i did reportt him to the
adminstrator...
i was out of pain meds and was in alot of pain that nite.
.and he said that if god came down to him and told him to give me pain meds he would nt do it.!!.
im like o u r above god now?? what a big A"i said just until to tide me over until april 3. i have appoint to see lld doc then and he said that/..
he sent me home with tyl not even extra str!!!omg!!!

And remember that if that tick is still in there it will need to be excised - cut out - not just pulled. They can easily cut it out in a doctor's office.

Relax, not all ticks are infected. However, it could be. Follow guidelines from the LDA.
Yes, the doctor was out of line and incompetent. However, I doubt any criticism you may make about the doctor will hold much water as it's now already five days later and you still have the tick. Anyone handing such a complaint would say that if it were urgent to you, it would have been addressed sooner.
You would need to document much - such as not being able to get in to see another doctor earlier, etc. - but if the tick is tested and comes back positive, that is important. But, since all tick tests are not accurate, you will still need to be assessed by a very good LLMD.

Nomolyme, I'm with Tutu - get some photos of the tick imbedded tick head with a current newspaper showing the date AND...... I'd be filing a written complaint with the hospital and the State Medical Board. And I might just send copies to the AMA, the CDC, and anybody else I can think of who might pay attention.
This is EXACTLY the kind of situation where I wish more folks would put together a little homeopathic `tick bite kit' to keep on hand..... there are just too many times when you can't get proper medical care in a timely manner. Anything that might offer an increased level of protection in these situations just makes sense to me.
I'll bump up the thread about it since it's tick season in some places.....

ok i went to a nurse pract yesterday..she said to wait two weeks if it didnt come out by itslef then to call her and she will take it out...
she said that most of it was out..when i was trying to get it out myself i got little slivers out...like one at a time ..the thing was not engorged with blood.....thsi whole thing is moot coz i have chronic lyme n e way no?
n e way..i went to another er and that doc took the rest out....
it was in for 5 days..im worried.
im so upset. w docs and one np and they alll give differnt treatments...should i take the tc still..im so confused..
