I am always in a battle with myself and doctors if I have lyme or not. I was trying to think of symptoms that I have that are only specific to lyme and not twenty other diseases. What about intolerance to alcohol? I googled it and only found two other explanations, one that has to do with your body not producing an enzyme that breaks alcohol down, but the article said that is usually specific to the oriental population. And then being allergic to alcohol. No other disease came up.

Lisa,

Have you ever heard the phrase Pick Your Battles? Well, I have been told that so many times in my life that I can't believe I am actually using the phrase.

This is a battle that you may never win.

Doctors think that because they are a doctor they are the ALL KNOWING ALL SEEING. And they are taught that there is no such thing as long term lyme.

The Guidelines book they use states no long term chronic lyme. It further tells them that lyme can be cured with 28 days of antoboitics. And, if you aren't cured, it wasn't lyme.

Also, several people have mentioned that they know they got bit, and they know they got the bullseye rash and the doctors still want to wait and see.

I do have some doctors that I mention lyme too, but most will never believe you. I am sorry, but it is true.

One Infectious guy said, what is this test from Igenex, I do not know that lab, you need to go across the street to the hospital and get a lyme test from a lab I know. He didn't care that the test showed that I was CDC positive.

Of course his ELISA came back negetive and he said see, you don't have lyme. I even argued with him that his test was not as reliable as the WB, but there was no changing his mind.

My husband's nuero said, Oh, everyone tests positive for that test. He too is CDC positive for lyme through Igenex. I mean, it has me floored.

My primary doctor just says, I can treat the other stuff, but not the lyme, I don't know anything about it. So, I may try to talk to her later down the road about lyme, but I let my LLMD handle the lyme.

My counselor is from Connecticut and she believes in lyme, but she can't prescribe meds.

Other than that, there is no lyme in Florida. At least that is what they say....

The only way the doctors will change is if the changes have to come from the top (CDC, ISDA, Government). We are trying to educate them from the bottom up and they don't want someone without a medical degree to try to tell them anything about medicine.

And the few doctors that do believe lyme exists are scared to treat it.

Lisa s, hypothyroidism is another cause of not tolerating alcohol.
(and lyme is known to affect the thyroid too)
