Every minute of every day Feelfit. Horrible. I have found one thing lately that helped it or I hope. I used to drink regular soda at times and a little sugar. My diet wasn't good. I completely cut off all pop, no candy, etc. Ears feel clearer than before. Coincidence?

I just wondering if Tubes in the ear could help this problem. You'd have to ask the doc. I dont know. I used to have a lot of fuild in the ear and after i got tubes put in it all went away...aw it was such a relief 10 mins after they were put in I could feel everything draining and the pressure was off.

Huuummmmm Seek, I don't drink pop or eat sugar..if I do, it is a miniscule ammt. I am glad that you have gotten some relief.

Butterfli are the tubes put in at a doctors office? How do they evaluate you in regards to whether or not you need them?

Thanks,
Feelfit

Yea I just went to a regular ear doctor and they did the procedure in like 10 mins. It seriously didnt hurt doing it at all and was a huge almost instant relief. I cant remember really how they evaluated me i just told them that I had pressure in my ears and they did it right then and there.

feelfit - I get sensation like being whacked in the side of the head (but really just my ear) by something invisible. It makes me flinch and startles me. I guess it's like plugging up.

It's not always that drastic, though. I call them pressure changes, for lack of a better description. Also tinnitus.

2 ENT's came up with nothing.

Do you also get dizziness?

Tiramisu. lol. I describe my sensation like that as a cartoon character coming up behind me and crashing cymbals over my ears,

except only one side goes out.

When I saw the ENT, he couldn't find anything either.

And I get dizziness and lightheadedness.

I have this too. Two years and counting...oh yeah and the buzzing in the head to boot.

This is the symptom that brought me to lyme. I think many people with lyme have this symptom. A myriad of ENTs have looked at me and done CT scans, MRIs and lots of examining. Some said valium, some said abx, some scratched their heads and said I don't know. This is the one thing I hope will finally go away with sufficient abx treatment to clear the lyme.

Hope the same for you.

Have you tried discontinuing dairy products? Sometimes food allergies can cause inflammation and excess mucus that may impact the ear canals.

Also, if you have any seasonal allergies on top of dairy/food allergies, could make for the clogged feeling.

(I had severe itching in my ears which was driving me crazy. Went to several ENTs, who said everything was fine and that allergies did not contribute to the itching. However, when we put my daughter, and thus the whole family, on her can't-eat-anything-diet!, which included eliminating dairy, the itching in my ears disappeared!)

Can be seasonal allergies too..try some Claritin for a few days maybe.

I've had this for years - I feel like I'm in an airplane all the time, feel the pressure in my ears worsen when I swallow, they crackle and pop.

Like others, ENT never found anything. Mucinex, Sudafed, etc. haven't helped.

Still have it after five years of treatment for Lyme and coinfections so I hope it goes away.

I've been gluten-free for six years and it hasn't helped. I'm on and off dairy so maybe that would help at least with the itching.

No dairy or gluten here. It is awful when I blow my nose as the the pressure really builds and my ears really snap, crackle and pop! This sometimes leads to difficulty in swallowing as well.

I know that it is all connected. ENT said eveything looked fine. He put a tube in my nose and loked through my nose to my throat....didn't pay much attention to my ears.

Anyone else get extreme pressure in the ears when blowing nose?

I think this may be behind the ear problem,
note he mentions inflamation from lyme infection.

Dr.J. OF S.C.
'The sore throat that is not a sore throat' - What is Carotidynia?
Frequently our patients describe sore throats as part of their recurring symptom complex. Often, when specifically asked, the patients note that ear pain accompanies the throat pain, but the patients often state that their primary physician can find no reason for their discomfort. In fact, on examination, there is no sign of inflammation of the throat or ear.

The condition 'carotidynia' is little known but is, in fact, common. On careful examination, one can easily detect swelling and pain at the carotid bulb, which is located just lateral to the top of the thyroid cartilage (Adam's Apple) and is the location at which the internal and external carotid arteries separate, or bifurcate.

Our theory is that this is yet another sign of inflammatory neurological disease associated with LBC, since the carotid bulb is known to be a baroreceptor, which means it plays a prominent role in monitoring blood pressure. As such, it is loaded with nerve fibers, some of which mediate pain. Since the fibers at the bulb lie in proximity to the throat and may radiate to the ear area, our patients complain of 'sore throat and earache', when in fact the throat and ear pain arise from an inflamed carotid bulb. The mediation of this pain is most likely from the Nerve of Hering, a branch of the 9th cranial nerve (glossopharyngeal nerve), and/or a branch of the superior cervical sympathetic chain.
