Hello all..

Ill make this quick.

My first question.

My Doc has my on both Mepron and Rifampin. Ive

read that one makes the other less potent. Should

I try and get off of one of them if its being

counterproductive?

My second question...

Do you think im on too many meds?

He has me on

Mepron 750 x2 a day

Rifampin 300 x2 day

Azithomycin 250 x2 day

metronidazole 500mg x2 day

cefdinir 300 x2 day

Dont know if my stomach can take this forever.

And trips to the bathroom have certainly been

better.

My doc suspects I have a coinfection but the only

thing that is fact is that ive tested positive

for Lyme.

The thing is, if the Rifampin and the Merpron

dont get along, i'd like to drop the Mepron.

Not only is it too expensive but it gives me an

upset stomach.

What is your opinion?

I wouldnt say thats too much..until you said yerself that yer stomach couldnt handle it much longer.

If you narrowed it down to Mepron and Rifampin, I'd lose the Mepron.

I think Rifampin and Zithromax work the best together. They complement eachother.

THe Rifampin & Zithro will attack most effectively, the sphereoplastic form of Bb. DUe to its lack of a cell wall.

Zithro stops bacterial transcription and Rifampin stops bacterial translation.
Transcription is necessary for protein production, early on.

Translation is necessary for protein production too...but "down stream" physiologically. Meaning transcription occurs b4 translation, but they both are steps in PROTEIN PRODUCTION.

If the Zithro doesnt stop the proteins...the rifampin probably will. Rifampin is a safety net for Zithro.

THey do other stuff too, but basically thats their primary mech of action.

I've always been a big fan of their combo.

The Cefdinir kills the Normal form of Bb...the kind with a cell wall. It kills it by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. This is how rocephin works. Lots of abx.

I never tried mepron, but heard its mechanism of action is rather mysterious. I guess thats why Doc's like it...it has a unique method of attack on bacteria. THE MORE ways to attack the bacteria, the better.

Attack the bacteria froom at least 3 directions is the central idea. Spheroplast, normal form and cystic form.- ur covered here...plus the mepron for good measure.

I think you're on the right track.

Are you supposed to be taking all of those meds EVERY day or are any of them being pulsed?

Do you know how long you're expected to continue taking them?

Yes, all those meds, every day, 2 times a day.

Im taking them indefinitely as far as I know.

Well, until i see results.

He started me on the Mepron and Rifampin for the first month.

I only got worse.

Then he threw in the other 3.

Mepron is not for Borrelia, but rather for Babesia...and Malaria.

I have never heard of any LLMD using Cefdinir...is your Doctor well versed on the intricacies of Lyme Disease?

Yes, you are taking quite a bit...go with your gut feeling, pardon the pun.

Peace, Love and Wellness,
JRW

JRW, what is wrong with Cefdinir? (Omnicef)

My LLMD wants me to take Mepron and Rifampin together with Zithromax after taking Mepron and Zithromax alone for a month.

I would be interested in hearing more about this.

Mepron and Rifampin should not be taken together. I think Rifampin lowers the potency of the Mepron.

Right, at least, that's what I read.

Personally, I think i should cut the Mepron out and let the Rifampin go to full strength.

But I'm no doctor. Obviously, ha ha.

Then after all of that my thoughts get kinda muddled on what to do.

last year, I was treated with an IV of ceftriaxone for 28 days, with a follow up of 2 weeks of Doxy (through Kaiser, if you can believe it)... at first I thought it didn't do much but i had a nearly complete remission over the next 4-5 months.

A little over 2 months ago the symptoms starting coming back so i went and saw this LLMD.

And over the past 2 months they have gotten worse then they were, at their, worst, of June of last year.

So, im wondering, if i should try and force the guys hand into giving me ceftriaxone again.

I mean, that and the doxy were pretty much proven to work in my case, right?

So why not just try that again. But for longer.

And the Mepron, in my case, is $350 anyhow. The ceftriaxone, has a generic right? Cant be that much more then that.

Although, i imagine he is pretty firm in what he thinks is best, not what I think is best.

Any suggestions on this, and my current meds, are more then welcome.
