Good morning,

I am needing to know if Doxycycline HYC is the same thing as good old generic Doxycyline...

or not?

Thanks so much in advance!

I think it's the generic of Doryx?

Check this out:

http://www.drugs.com/cdi/doryx-delayed-release-capsules.html

If so I think I remember people saying they like that kind better b/c it is better on the stomach? But I am not for sure? Maybe someone else will chime in?

Thank you Amy!

So, is regular Doxy the same as Doxycycline Monohydrate?

Anyone?

hi mel,

our pharmacy is closed now, so i checked nih's medical library and found this....look at bottom!

didn't read anymore past that....

Thanks Miss B!

OK, so this is why I am confused...

I have been newly prescribed Doxy along with Amoxy and Augmentin. I am also to stay on Zith.

From what I have read thus far, Doxy interacts with the penicillins. Amoxy and Augmentin are both in that family, right?

I also already have on hand Regular Doxy and the Doxy HYC.... sooooooooooo this is why I am trying to figure out which I can take and with what meds and what I actually need to purchase IF what I already have will not work.

Sure, I could call the Pharm and bug him again, but I was hoping that one of you experts could help me sort this out first?

Wish I could help Melanie, all I know is that Doxy makes me wicked dizzy!

It made Ashlee very sick, but so did everything else. To be safe.........I would call and bug the pharmacist again.

Hey, they like to help, that's what they are there for, aren't they?

HUGS,

See, this is the other thing...

Speaking from experience, along with a certain someone trying to pound this fact into my head for the last six years... I tend to push through most anything, not realizing IF it is the meds, or me.

And Doxy ALWAYS leaves me on the floor in a matter of days. So, one would think that it is really getting at something, right?

This is where my LLMD is going with this new protocol. We need to go after not only the ACA but a suspected relapsing Borellia too. While trying to cover the other known infections so they don't get out of hand.

Doxy seems to be the multi-tasker... so that is the drug of choice for now.

So, I could just start the Doxy for now... and that IS the plan... although when it is time to add the other stuff in... this is where I am getting confused by what I have read thus far.

AND... I am wanting to know which Doxy I should be starting with. So, there IS a method to my madness, certain someone... but perhaps because I am the one who is mad, I am the only one who understands it? [Smile]

Alright... I guess I will have to bug the Pharm again, he really is amazing, I just don't want to push my luck.

Thanks all!
M

Of course it is a Holiday weekend, and Elvis has already left the building.

So... I am going to take a holiday too and deal on Tuesday. [Smile]

Good choice, Mel. Take a holiday, it won't hurt for a few days.

Not having Lyme and Co's I don't know what it would do to me other than the Dizzy thing, but WOW, that is bad enough!!!

I couldn't even drive when I tried it. Hahaha, I was looking for a herx. Didn't happen.

HUGS, Happy Holiday!

What I Think.

By Tincup.

It's party time. Take the LONG weekend off.

Then check with the pharmacist.

From what I remember... which isn't meaning it is right....

You don't take any doxy with any "cillin".

I'd run it all past the experts before I did anything.

Well not "anything"...

You could clap your hands... and aawe you're looking good...

This guy is ready to party on down.... with you!

Go Melanie, GO!

Augmentin is simply amoxy + clavulanate. Additional amoxy is 'added' to bring the level up to ILADS recommends for that "cell-wall" antibiotic w/o exceeding the safe level of clavulanate.
Zithromax (azithromycin) is a popular "intra-cellular" that has a synergistic affect when added to a penicillun or a cephalosporin.

Doxycycline is generally Not added along with a penicillun as it's believed it "may interfere with the bactericidal action of penicillin."
However, Some LLMDs still add a tetracycline as they feel it will help attack the BB from "another direction".
Dr. B's 2008 Guidelines side with recommending against adding a "tetra", like doxy. (pg. 12)

As the highest sun-angle season is fast approaching, I'd question the choice to add in doxy at this time. However, you should re-check w/ the doc & also consider if you can simply stay out of the daytime sun while on it.

Doxycyline HYC (doxy "hyclate") is simply one form of the drug, often in time-release formula.
I don't think it will matter which one you take.

Hope that helps. [Wink]

Thank you Kete-tracker!

Mind you... I'm not questioning my doc's protocol... I am questioning my OWN interpretation.

I meant to remember to take in a tape recorder, like I have suggested to others to do for years now...

I even had the darn thing sitting on my keys...
AND a stickit note on the door...

However, I left it home, of course! [Smile]

I will call the pharm AND the doc on Tuesday to get clarification.

......

I just took my goodnight pills and am fading fast...

Soooo, here is the last one from the heart to dream by:

Thanx, tc. A good weekend to enjoy Mr Buffett.

Melanie,
Not that I'm a doctor (just a senior certified electronic [troublesooting] tech w/ 2 eng degrees, & many cousins & aunts who are MDs & RNs)

but if I were you?...I'd skip the doxy for Now & instead add Probenecid to your protocol to keep the amoxy levels up (will allow 2 dosings/day, say 8AM & PM) Uually a 500mg caplet w/ ea dosing.

Also, ask your doc if he/she might add some flucanazole [DiFlucan] every 4 - 6 days (100mg or 150mg respectively) to help w/ the G.I. tract AND help fight the Lyme. That's what my LLMD did for Me... & it helped a B-U-N-C-H!

Enjoy the Holiday!
