I've been experiencing a strange symptom lately. I get it in the evening, and it lasts about 1 to 3 hours. It literally feels like the little energy I have left is draining out of me through my lower back.
I get extremely weak and I have to lie down. Then it's like I'm filled with lead and I'm sinking in the mattress. Resting doesn't seem to help. I have to wait for it to pass.
I feel like an old battery that's running out of energy. I feel like I'm about to die.
Anyone ever felt like this?

Hi Bob,
I have felt like that when I first collapsed in 1983. I know it feels really scary, but it will go away with treatment. As you can see, that was 26yrs ago and all I could do was ride it out and rest.
I describe it as bone crushing fatigue. I didn't know what was wrong with me back then. Sorry you are going through this. Hang in there,

Yep, I get this occasionally too. When it hits, I can do nothing but collapse on the bed. It's scary and no doc can explain it.

It IS the energy draining out of you, courtesy of area cell phone and wifi towers. I have the same symptom.

That will happen, the life draining out of you feeling. Or the battery completely dead feeling.
I still get that and I have had Lyme for years. I do notice it is worse after eating a meal of the type of heavy carbs we are not supposed to eat.
Keep smiling and just know that we (Lyme people-yes I know it sounds like bad '50s science fiction) are in this together till we cure this monster from Mars (I must be in a '50s science fiction mode), we care about you, and if we keep fighting, we may just win.

I remember this all too well. It's a terrible feeling. If you try to describe it to someone who hasn't had Lyme, they just can't begin to imagine how you feel. Sometimes this feeling would make me seriously wonder how much longer I'd be alive.
If you were fairly athletic when you got sick, it's hard to believe you could become this weak.
And the good news is that I'm so much better now and you will too. Hang in there, and don't give up.

I've been taking antibiotics for over a year now. I'm surprised to be feeling worse now than I did 4 months into treatment.
My energy levels are so low! I can barely work -- I work from home, just a few hours a day, but I feel like I will have to stop, as I'm less and less functional.
Thank you all for your replies. I don't feel like I'm the only one with a monster inside my body.

I got this a lot last summer when all my symptoms started.
It has gotten better, but I still sometimes get this tired, usually after a good day.

This is how I feel practically all the time! absolutely drained, I have to spend most of my time in bed. Very occasionally I have enough energy to go out for half an hour, or do a bit of housework.

I've always taken enough abx to cover both babesia and borrelia, or bartonella and borrelia.
Am presently taking biaxin, mino, rifampin and tinidazole (pulsing the last two).

Wow! You describe this almost exactly the way I do!
I often say it feels like someone attached a vacuum cleaner to my lower back and is sucking out all the energy.
And when lying down - as if my bones are sinking into the mattress.
It is a terrible feeling.
Have you checked out your adrenal function?
That might be another area to explore.
Getting an underlying adrenal issue treated has really helped me.
Not sure if it would help you as well, but might be worth a shot.

When I get this, I can't help but think there's something wrong with my kidneys. I will ask for an adrenal function test.
A "vacuum cleaner to my lower back sucking out all the energy" is a very good description of how this feels.

Not treating babs at the moment. Borrelia and bartonella.
Killing two bugs at the same time, seems like enough to me.
