Has anyone here experienced tailbone pain with Lyme? I've been sick for, I believe, about 2 years. Just over two months ago the tailbone pain started.

I've tried chiropractors to no avail. They say there's a muscle spasm but I haven't found any relief.

Dr's have mentioned pilonidal cyst but I see nothing on the outside at all. It hurts in one specific spot on the bottom of the tailbone and you really have to hit that one spot to cause pain and it hurts when lifting up and down from a chair.

My Lyme doc said it is most likely from the Lyme because "it's everywhere." but I am having it evaluated by a General Surgeon on Tuesday.

If anyone has any experience with this, I'd love to hear your story.

If you have had it, when did it resolve? I've been on antibiotics for about 3 weeks now and it hasn't seemed to make a dent in the TB pain but some of my other symptoms are better.

I have it, I've had it on and off for years but it doesn't last long for me. It was especially intense at the beginning of each of my pregnancies (which is how I knew I was pregnant). I started getting it again (I'm post baby making now) and have gotten it cyclically for the past few months.

I've been sick with Lyme (undiagnosed) for 24 years. Dx since October.

Chattygirl--

I, too, have that exact pain...I'm a chronic lyme case...been battling it 4 1/2 years....I wish I had an answer for you as to causation/cure....

I think it's most likely due to nerve inflammation versus debilitation of the muscles in that area (in my case anyway)....

Sorry you're hurting...

I sometimes get bad tailbone pain with this. It was one of my first symptoms.

I broke my tailbone 20 years ago--but it NEVER hurt after it healed then. Dr. told me that lyme tends to get into old injuries/scar tissue.

Yup, I've had this and believe it is due to the lyme... at least in mine and a lot of cases.

When I first got very sick, I started getting tailbone pain. And before this, I've never had tailbone pain before in my life, so it was very odd and nothing I could point to the cause for. I had NOT fallen, I had not done anything differently to cause my tailbone to hurt. It would get so bad that it hurt to sit for any amount of time. It hurt to even lay down on my back or even on my side where the pressure was OFF my tailbone. It was so weird.

This was when I was at my sickest and during this time I still had no idea what was making me so sick. After I was finally diagnosed and started on treatment, the tailbone pain diminished a LOT and eventually went away.

A year and a half later, it still comes back every once in a while but not with the same intensity or pain. It's like a lesser version of it and I can deal with it much easier than before because the milder version doesn't usually hurt when laying down like it did the first time. It usually only bothers me a little while sitting... but like I said, it only comes every once in a while now.... which I'm thankful for.

My sister has this. She has her first LLMD appointment in July. We suspect her tailbone pain is related to Lyme.

She will be interested in reading this thread.

I have had tailbone pain since my daughters were born back in the 70's, and recently had a neuro stimulator implant and has helped my pain tremendously.

Am a lymie, babesia , diagnosed '03. Did 31/2 yrs heavy duty abx and rochepin, and am now relapsing big time.

That pain is unreal, I carried a thick foam pillow when I went out, and knew I was going to sit somewhere, it did help for a short time only.

Best of luck

My son (age 18) had really bad tailbone pain. His pain went away when an LP shunt was put in to decrease his intracranial pressure.

I had this early on and am pretty sure it was Lyme in my case. I think it reflects how deeply infected we are, in that it's in our spine. My tail bone hurt for a while, but my spine has hurt over a much longer period of time.

I haven't had tail bone pain for a long time, but my spine still aches a bit once in a while. Long term antibiotics did the trick for me.

I broke my tailbone many yrs ago and have had pain since. On an off that is. Now on the Pyroluria,Kryptopyroluria or KPU and it started again, when I first started the treatment. The protocal helps by releasing Heavy metals, toxins, and probably infections.Maybe lyme and co.

It seems they may like old injury sites? I too broke mine as a teen. I found the hot tub turns mine off.

Thanks for all of your replies. Those that mentioned old injuries, I agree. Many years ago I fell on my tailbone. It hurt about 3 weeks tops and then went away. I really do think Lyme goes to injuried areas.

Fingers crossed it goes away sooner rather than later!

Actually after almost 2 yrs on antibiotics my tailbone pain is a little better than it used to be. It got worse when I first started herxing. In my case I know it was caused by an injury 20 years ago, before Lyme, and I think the Lyme might have settled there once I became infected.

I read online that there are some chiropractors who will do an internal adjustment of the tailbone, but it seems to be a sort of back door treatment (haha) and not that commonplace.

It is very common for women to have injury due to childbirth though. Some they even break on purpose.

I know that I became infected around the same time that I started experiencing severe tailbone pain. It was so bad that I couldn't bear to sit, for even a brief period of time. They actually removed my coccyx and the relief was AMAZING!! Mind you I am not saying that such a drastic step is for everyone but it did work wonders for me.

I've had that on and off..worst pain in my life. I'd try to find a chiropractor or physical therapist who treats pelvic/sacral/cocyx (tailbone issues.)

My physical therapist does an internal mainpualtion to adjust the tail bone. It hurts when they're doing the manipulation but usually after a few adjustments the tail bone pain disaapears.

That's the only way I resolved my tail bone pain.
