what do you take for muscle pain when it's so bad you can't stand to be touched?

even a massage causes me to burst into tears because of the pain. she had to stop and i didn't get the massage. just too much pain.

is there something from otc or someplace that will help?

Neurontin has helped me tremendously. I don't think it's supposed to work on muscle pain but it does for me with no side effects. If it gets really bad I'll take 600mg of Advil. Hope that helps!

My LLMD says it's really nerve pain.

That's why meds like Lyrica and Neurontin can help....and why meds like ibuprofen do not help at all.

If you can't stand to be touched, sounds like nerve not muscle. Neurontin is what usually helps people the most.

For muscle pain, these are the drugs that helped most.

Flexeril - helped the most, made me the most tired. Took it at night only.

Zanaflex - helped, but after a few months, efficacy wained and made me tired

Skelaxin - didn't make me as tired, but didn't help much either, but worth trying

Vicodin, Oxycodone, Oxycontin - help reduce the pain, but don't relax the muscles.

I don't know of anything over the counter for muscle pain. If the muscle pain meds don't do anything, then it is probably nerve pain.

The less you use your muscles, the more it will hurt. I know it is hard to start exercising when you are in pain, but it is a necessity. I have learned the hard way by stopping my exercising. Starting again is awful, and it means intense pain for weeks while I adjust, but it is worth it in the long run.

I do yoga because it stretches and strengthens almost all my muscles. A pain doctor recommended strengthening in a pool. There are some rehab facilities that are set up for water rehab.
