I let my kid go up to Grandmas last week in an endemic area. He had a blast, they did nightly tick checks and last night (apparently it didn't seem out of the ordinary for my kid with weird rashy skin -- to my hubby anyway) he had a fresh little ring around a little red bite. Looks like a bulls eye to me.

He is on transfer factor, and we just switched from amox to zith, but he couldn't hold the zith down. He was only on TF and samento while at the lake, and then starting on crushed zith when he gets home.

Dumb. But it is what we decided to do. So, here it is late at night. . .he is asleep, and we can get the zith in the am.

Anything else I should do? Besides freak out and lose sleep and feel guilty?

Hi Peacemama,

We had a similar situation with my daughter a few weeks ago; she came home with 3 ticks attached and had nausea, headache, body aches.

We had amoxicilin, mino, bactrim, and rifampin in the house.

I posted on the board, and someone advised either amox if 8 or under or mino if older.

We gave her the mino, which the doc ended up prescribing for 4 weeks anyway.

He thought it might be RMSF.

Anyway, I'm no doctor, but would the amoxicillin be ok 'til you can follow up tomorrow if you have some available.

I don't really know, maybe some more experienced folks could chime in.

I know how you feel, I was in a panic and it was midnight. Didn't know what to do.

I hope you get it figured out. Take care and God bless.

Thanks. He is sounds asleep. If he wakes, I might crush him up some zith. If not, I'll call the LLMD in the am. She strolls in around 9. . so I'll chomp at the bit til then.

above is my post of dr. burrascano's 2 pages of dosages/meds for KIDS and adults; read it over good; i broke it up and double spaced it so we can comprehend it vs. all typed together.

best wishes! hugs/kisses

Each new bite needs doxy .. except for young children.. Then they need amoxicillin.

I'm so sorry this has happened!!!!!
