My doc just started me on this. I'm to take it twice a day. The insert says "with or without food", same time each day.

I'm already having trouble figuring out when to take my Zith! I try to take that on a fairly empty stomach.

I take Mepron twice a day with meals. Could I take the Biaxin at the same time? Or does it interfere with the Mepron?

I was wondering what other people's experiences were. I'd like to avoid problems and get the most out of this drug.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Are you on Biaxin AND Zithromax?? they are VERY similar, so that doesnt make much sense.

Take Biaxin with food, twice a day, yes you can take it with Mepron. Make sure you take the Mepron with some fat in your meal so it gets absorbed. Biaxin might give you a metal mouth taste, its normal, and it goes away over time. It's a great med.

I've got the same question as WildCondor. Why Biaxin and Zith? They are both macrolides. Both can cause tinnitus (ringing in the ears)- Zith did that to me. So my LLMDs switched me to Biaxin and it hasn't made tinnitus noticeably worse.

I tend to take most antibiotics with food regardless of what they say because my GI tract just can't take it otherwise. But that's me.

I always check for drug interactions on websites such as www.drugs.com - that way you will have a better idea if you can take things together.

I'm like you - on three things, Malarone has to be taken with fat - I feel like I'm popping pills or drinking herbal tinctures all day - and oh, yes, the probiotics.

Don't take Coenzyme Q10 with either Mepron or Malarone.

I didn't have the horrible lingering taste from Biaxin that some do - it went away in a few days. But one of my LLMDs warned me about it, and said I could even coat it in olive oil to try to disguise the metallic taste.

Another one for both at the same time sounds really odd. I would take it both ways and see which you handle better. Biaxin actually is absorbed a bit less when taken with food, but Biaxin extended release is the opposite better taken with food.

I take it with a minimal amount of food and find that works best for me. Say, with a piece of bannana in the morning. And, 1-2 hours after dinner as to not take it on a completely full OR empty stomach, sort of inbetween is working well for me.

The package insert says with or without food because food will not increase or decrease it's absorption. So, yes, go ahead and take it with your Mepron. It will make life easier.

If you ever have questions about your medication there are also good references online. Check out drugs.com or rxlist.com, drugs.com also has a drug interaction checker that can be very helpful when you are on multiple medications.

OMG, I meant BACTRIM!

I was seriously starting to wonder about my LLMD's judgment until I looked at the name on the pill bottle!

He rx'd Bactrim for Fry's "mystery bug", which he is treating as a hemobartonella for now.

A big THANK YOU to all who replied, as the advice on when to take the stuff applies to Bactrim as well as Biaxin.

I finally had a brief moment of mental clarity and called my doc's office. I'll be taking the Bactrim with meals at the same time I take Mepron.

Gawd, I miss my brain!
